We’re pumped to be bringing a double-digit cast of Boxed mainstays down for a seriously weighty Boiler Room evening showcase. A dozen-odd residents and regular bookings will be going at it across a rolling 3hr set broadcast from the heart of London, showcasing the absolute finest in cutting-edge instrumental grime. It’s going to be totally wild. Peep the Session page HERE for more info. In just over a year, Boxed has gone from a party put on for simply practical reasons: because not enough clubs were playing the music that its residents – Slackk, Logos, Mr Mitch and Oil Gang – wanted to hear, to instrumental grime’s key clubnight. Boxed has run rooms at Plastic People, Fabric, Birthdays, The Troxy and more, and has released two compilations, Boxed Vol. 1 and 2. Crucially, it’s also become an incubation centre for a generation of grime producers, a hub where producers can both get inspiration and watch their tunes become scene anthems. Some have compared it to early FWD>> and the role that that night played in dubstep’s development, but Boxed deserves to be spoken of in its own terms, with its own specific set of values and influences. Some of the biggest dance tunes of recent months – Gage’s ‘Telo‘, Dark0′s ‘Sweet Boy Pose‘, Finn’s ‘Keep Calling‘ – were showstoppers at Boxed before they made an impact in the wider dance music world, and with every party there seems to be another set of anthems-in-the-making or artists-to-watch breaking through. It’s London’s most exciting new clubnight, but the scene and sound that have formed around it are very much international. And so shall its exposure be on our Boiler Room broadcast, next Tuesday 22nd July. The post Boxed In; Breaking Out appeared first on BOILER ROOM. |
