Nous avons découvert l’affaire le reliant à la mort de  Philip Seymour Hoffman dans les médias. Concernant les questions judiciaires, nous laissons la justice américaine faire son travail, cependant nous voulions rappeler son génie créatif et sa personnalité attachante. Toutes les personnes ayant travaillé avec lui pourront en témoigner. Nous lui apportons notre soutien dans cette difficile épreuve. We have a sad thought for our friend and artist Robert Aaron, as well as for his family. We discovered the affair connecting him with Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death in the media. Concerning the legal questions, we let the American justice make its work, however we wanted to remind his creative genius and his charming personality. NEW ANTHONY JOSEPH ALBUM “TIME” OUT!! Posted: 03 Feb 2014 04:27 AM PST Today is THE great day, after months of waiting, the new Anthony Joseph album “Time” is out at last. Anthony wrote this text especially for the release. Nothing to add. “I've released five albums in the last seven years. Today, the 5th, 'Time' is released. And it could only be called 'Time'. An apt title when you consider the drift of moments that has brought us here, that has brought me here to this point, to working with Meshell Ndegeocelloll Ndegeocello, to recording the 11 songs/poems/word-movies in five days in Paris last spring.  I'd met Meshell in September 2011. I was doing an interview at the Naive Records offices when she walked in unexpectedly to say how much she loved the then new album, Rubber Orchestras. It was a beautiful moment. I'd loved and lived through her music since 'Plantation Lullabies', her music had induced  both tears and ecstasy throughout the years. I was a huge fan. So meeting her, and hearing that she knew my work was something special. We kept in touch. It was a year before I asked her if she'd be interested in producing the next album. When she agreed, I knew we were on a train, all we had to do was hold on and we would get there. But when we started working on the album, exchanging ideas and sounds, I had written very little, then the words came, in bursts and waves, and the music too; we were engaged in a mutually inspiring, deep creative process. So when we met at the studios in Paris we knew exactly what we had to do. The musicians did too, Meshell had been working on the arrangements with her band while on tour! Meshell was clear from the start that she wanted to focus on the words, that the music, though important, supported the poems. I think this was what she did with the instrumentation, as you will hear when you listen to the album. Poetry is at the centre of this universe. It brings me full circle; the first Spasm Band album, Leggo the Lion (2007) was all poetry, spiritual baptist rhythms and free jazz. Meshell wanted me to go back to being a poet on this album, in her words to 'just say the poem'. She wanted the voice to penetrate the ear, to make what Kamau Brathwaite calls 'word-sculptures' for the ear.

Blue Note Reissue #6: 6 new LPs ! Posted: 26 Nov 2013 06:38 AM PST Here we go with our new Blue Note reissue series! These range from the beautiful vocal album by Sheila Jordan 'Portrait of Sheila', through to classics like Dexter Gordon's 'One Flight Up' and Hank Mobley's 'No Room for Squares'. As usual, Heavenly Sweetness have also tried to reissue albums that are rarely seen on vinyl. So you can also find the second Grachan Moncur III album for Blue Note 'Some Other Stuff', impossible to find for over 20 years and the underrated Horace Parlan LP 'Happy Frame of Mind', which wasn't released until 1986. Last but not least, the late Donald Byrd's 'Kofi', a 1968 session produced by Duke Pearson and released in 1995. It is a pivotal work from his "groove period", which is available on LP and in a limited edition LP version that includes a 10" of Frank Foster's "The Loud Minority" (limited to 300 copies).

ETHIOPIQUES VINYL SERIES AVAILABLE NOW! Posted: 11 Oct 2013 01:40 AM PDT We are proud to announce the release of a selection of the famous Ethiopiques series on vinyl. Discover the musical treasures of the Ethiopian 60′s music scene, one of the most interesting music out of Africa! LPs reissues of albums taken from the amazing Ethiopiques CD collection of Ethiopian music. Since 1997 the series has been bringing the treasures of the Ethiopian music scene of the 60s and 70s to a wider audience, including some of the founding fathers like Mulatu Astatke, Mahmoud Ahmed and Tilahun Gessesse. The series was known by the global groove diggers for years, but reached a larger audience thanks to the Jim Jarmusch movie "Broken Flowers", which largely used Ethiopian jazz in its soundtrack. Some classic titles to be filed alongside Fela Kuti, Kenyan funk or Malian music. These vinyls were previously released by l'Arome production, We will also release some new titles soon.
