Now, Sustain-Release has unveiled the second wave of artists slated to perform at the inaugural edition of the East Coast event. read more |

Circle Traps is the combined effort of UK artists Jack Wyllie, Duncan Bellamy, and Will Ward. Together, the trio will release its third EP, Machine City, next month via the Lex label, from which the synth-led "What It Holds" comes to us. Appearing in the second half of the upcoming effort, the production is built around a driving drum machine and interweaving layers of thick arpeggio sequences, which are generously manipulated and bathed in FX as they twist throughout the tune's four-plus-minute run.

This dusty slice of house arrives courtesy of Seb Wildblood, a London producer and co-founder of the city's Church label. All week long, XLR8R will be taking a closer look at some of our favorite record shops from around the globe. Back in 1996, when Biba Kopf traveled to Berlin to profile Basic Channel for The Wire, Mark and Moritz—who back then refused to give their last names—took their interviewer to a record store. "[They] invite me the Hard Wax record shop in Kreuzberg. For three hours, I am blitzed with a brief history of Chicago house and Detroit techno: the early Chicago acid tracks of Phuture, Armando and Armani, then moving onto Detroit for Cybotron, Model 500, Underground Resistance, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, and Juan Atkins." Nearly two decades on, making a cursory reference to Hard Wax without pausing to reflect on its importance would be unthinkable. read more |

Helmed by Alex Cowles (a.k.a. DFRNT), the Cut label/subscription service will soon add a new EP to its catalog from London newcomer Swoon. Serving as the lead cut to the forthcoming Beyond Human EP, "Do You Love" is a detail-oriented production that places subtle melodic phrases beneath a rich, hazy atmosphere and clever layers of evolving percussion. Swoon's Beyond Human EP will see its official release on July 28; in the meantime the rest of the upcoming effort can be previewed after the jump. read more |
