Zack from Fortuna Records dropped in a couple of weeks ago and blessed the Brownswood Basement with an all vinyl selection of Middle Eastern gems. Mostly recorded in Israel but featuring musicians from all over the Middle Eastern region (Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Egypt) it highlights the amazing fusion of Arabic folk music with jazz, rock, funk and disco styles in the early 70s. Essential listening – pops, crackles, hisses and all!

Gilles Peterson - Worldwide - The Outcast

Gilles is joined in the studio by a duo who go by the name of Blludd Relations. Jesse and Nathan are both stalwarts of the London scene, having carved out reputations through their own projects, which include The Owiny Sigoma Band and Bullion, but on this project they join forces, with a long player forthcoming on Deek Recordings. The guys talk about collaborating, and what music they're currently feeling, as well as selecting a couple tracks for a special-edition Secret Waltz Club. Plus, there's new music from Kanye West, Machinedrum, Flying Lotus produced Mac Miller and Boards Of Canada, as well as classics from Horace Silver, Steely Dan and Darondo.

Gilles Peterson - Janelle Monae in conversation

Gilles is joined by US R&B singer, Janelle Monae, who recently collaborated with Erykah Badu on the single QUEEN ahead of her hotly anticipated sophomore album, The Electric Lady. Having grown up in Kansas and studied in New York, it was a chance encounter with Outkast's Big Boi in Atlanta, which proved key in her being discovered. Big Boi discussed her talents with Bad Boy Records boss, Sean Combs who swiftly checked her out and signed her to his label, and her debut album, The ArchAndroid earned her a Grammy nomination.
There's the Secret Waltz Club, with one of John Coltrane's finest works, the Do Over featuring a 1970s Turkish protest song and underground hip hop from Percee P, plus new music from Disclosure, Blludd Relations, Todd Terje, Thundercat and Pusha T alongside classics from Donna Summer, Photek and Dennis Brown.
