45 archaeologist, Madlib manager and champion of good music Egon has put together this Rock Mix to complement the release of Madlib’s Rock Konducta 2 record.
A hugely entertaining and enjoyable (Rock) mix that is full of obscure counter-culture attitude and Hendrix inspired guitar licks, it the traverses rock and funks hinterland and lives up to Egon’s description; ”This is a mix of late 60s to mid 70s rock music from all over the world: America to Germany to Japan and everywhere in-between. It's the type of rock Madlib used for the Rock Konducta records, and is a mixture of the incredibly rare and random dollar bin finds that makes crate digging in the rock idiom so much fun. A lot of this is underground – one example was literally recorded by Dusseldorf twenty-somethings in a bomb-shelter, a literally exorcising of Nazi demons through Krautrock – and some of it is from bands that had pop aspirations but recorded something heavy and probably a bit odd as the one-off awesome track on an otherwise forgettable album.” |
Tramlines Festival Gig Poster Show

Local illustrators Drew Millward and Tom J Newell have curated a Gig Poster show at the Millennium Gallery venue as part of Sheffield’s Tramlines Festival. The duo have invited ten other artists to exhibit alongside them, each artist tasked with producing a gig poster for an act that is appearing in this years line-up.
The list of artists involved include Kid Acne, who has produced a poster for Public Enemy, Jonathan Edwards, who has picked Gold Panda, and Jo Peel who has chosen Slow Club. Meanwhile the exhibit organisers have decided to represent the sounds of Yorkshire rockers The Cribs (Millward) and the certified ruckus of the Gaslamp Killer (Newell’s pick). Sharp-eyed readers will spot that a large part of the roster have graced our printed pages; Kid Acne (Bonafide issue 02 alumni), Gold Panda (issue 08) and the Gaslamp Killer (our token US ambassador in our UK themed issue 04). Obviously whoever organised the Tramlines Festival this year shares our musical taste. Print details All of the prints are Risograph printed by Mono in Manchester (unless otherwise stated in the show) and limited editions of each of the prints will be available to buy from the gallery for the duration of the Tramlines Festival weekend. Prints are signed and numbered by the artists and are priced at £20 each. Show details The show will open to Tramlines ticket holders at 7.30pm on Friday 25th July and is open to the public during the day on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27. Tom J Newell and Jo Peel will be drawing live at the show as part of the Drawing The Summer project from 2-4pm on Saturday 26. |
