This 6x45s boxset is heavily limited, a true collector's item. Featuring Afrodyete (The Breakestra), Alice Russell (courtesy of Tru Thoughts Recordings), Brownout, Grant Phabao, Jungle Fire, The Lone Ranger with Carlton Livingston, The Jays, this selection gathers the best DJ tunes from Paris DJs' digital releases of the past two years. It was crowdfunded through a campaign of pre-orders which happened in June 2014 on the French Kiss Kiss Bank Bank website. Only a 100 copies of that boxset are being printed (maybe a handful more - printing on cardboxes isn't an exact science), and already 96 have been pre-ordered. This really is an 'Act Fast Or Cry Later' situation, even though the 45s may be ordered separately...

Paris DJs Soundsystem Vinyl Is Good For You

Press Release :
Paris DJs is a young label launched in 2012, who's already put out no less than 4 Reggae albums, 5 Afro/Tropical compilations, 2 Hip Hop compilations and 50 singles of Reggae, Ska, Afro, Latin, Jazz, Soul, etc. The productions come from all over the world, mastered with a vintage, warm and ideally spatialized sound. You can find those releases on the digital platforms, Bandcamp, JunoDownload, iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Now Paris DJs starts doing vinyl releases, with many collectable pressings, starting with this six 45s boxset named 'VINYL IS GOOD FOR YOU', mostly about Jamaican grooves - Reggae, Rub-a-Dub and Ska, with some Afrofunk & Latin Funk Breaks also included.

Featuring Afrodyete (The Breakestra), Alice Russell (courtesy of Tru Thoughts Recordings), Brownout, Grant Phabao, Jungle Fire, The Lone Ranger & Carlton Livingston, The Jays, this selection gathers the best DJ tunes from Paris DJs' digital releases.

The multicolored 7 inches center artworks & sleeves, the boxset itself have all been conceived and illustrated by graphic designer Ben Hito, "the only French artist who achieved the perfect alchemy between the hippie psychedelism from San Francisco 1967 et the Foucray wallpapers design from the Seventies" (Rock'n'Folk magazine - Dec 2013).

This 6x45s boxset is heavily limited, a true collector's item.

This really is an 'Act Fast Or Cry Later' situation, even though the 45s may be ordered separately. A total of 300 copies of each 7 inch will be pressed, including those to be found in the 'Vinyl Is Good fo You' boxset. People who helped make this happen with their pre-orders on the crowdfunding website got a very special price of 70€. The remaining copies are sold for 100€ - expect them to fetch much higher prices on Ebay soon - or you can grab the digital version for 10€ - without the Alice Russell remixes due to licensing restrictions...

Brownout Flaximus Renegades Of Jazz B-Boy Edit

Press Release :
Paris DJs &
Kept Records &
Brownout &
Grant Phabao &
Renegades Of Jazz.

Paris DJs, from Paris, France, have been putting out for seven years hundreds of astonishing thematic mixes, which gathered millions of downloads. They have now morphed into a unique music label. From Reggae to Afrobeat, Jazz to Funk, Ethio-Jazz and Latin Soul… the artistic direction of the label is as eclectic and hard to please as it's been during the previous seven years! Before, they were releasing a new mix every week to the delight of musical connoisseurs from all over the globe. Now, they're releasing a new, original single, or album, every week, with many artists from their ever-expanding network coming into play with tracks and collaboration ideas. As the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show puts it: 'The Paris DJs label... take a look at their website, the amount of high-quality Afro, Soul, Ska & Reggae that they're throwing out just now is breathtaking. 'Dis Is Good For You', their actual compilation, it's good for ya!'. Nuff' said.

Kept Records, from Calgary, Canada, is a record label of Funk, Grooves, Breaks & Brass engaged at 45 RPM. They've been releasing some very collectable & funky 7 inches these last years, all killer, no filler! Five of them, precisely: some Polyrhythmics afrofunk & heavy funk to begin with, then a killer latin/brass/soul thing from Brownout, spychedelic funk from Alpman, more afrofunk from Polyrhythmics, and afrobeat or funk from Hard Proof. Some very interesting stuff is in preparation, including the label's first full length album…

Brownout is a fantastic latin-funk band from Austin, Texas, led by regular Paris DJs collaborator Adrian Quesada, who've been putting out heavily recommended albums and singles of killer Latin-Funk breaks, grooves and soul. Their latest full-length 'Oozy' was one of the best albums of 2012, and their Kept Records 45 'Flaximus/I Won't Lie' was one the best singles of the same year, in Paris DJs's book.

Parisian multi-intrumentalist Grant Phabao might be the most essential producer of 21st century roots Jamaican music. His sound and mixing style got him the praise of most veterans from Studio One in Kingston, who never forget to come to Paris DJs studios in the French capital to voice some new riddims with him when in town, saying he's 'bringing back the original King Tubby sound with a modern twist'. Four albums, with respectively The Lone Ranger, Carlton Livingston, The Silvertones, and The Jays, have already been produced by Grant Phabao and released on the Paris DJs label. Many more singles and remixes too, already gathering half a million downloads wihout any kind of promotion. Grant Phabao is now played on many radios all over the world and will be spinning his tunes along with the Paris DJs Soundsystem at the Glastonbury festival in june 2013.
Check him out here www.grantphabao.com

Renegades Of Jazz is raw and heavy produced music, fusing jazz with breakbeat elements, bringing the jazz back to the dancefloor. They've been heavily present on ParisDJs.com with reviews, 2 exclusive mixes and many plays in various Paris DJs mixes along the years. Their full length album 'Hip To The Jive' enlightened the summer of 2011 and beyond. Having them aboard the label adventure (i.e. in one of Paris DJs releases) was just a matter of time! Renegades Of Jazz have been working like crazy recently, putting out a remixed version of their first album, many singles, an avalanche of very cool dancefloor-jazz-friendly remixes (including Bajka, Bahama Soul Club, Karthala 72, our collegues from Jungle Fire, Hugo Kant, Colman Brothers, Skeewiff, Insight, Mayer Hawthorne, Anthony Joseph and many more).

Before running the Kept Records label, founder Dale Barrie was putting out some cool mixes of 45s on Paris DJs as Citizen Dale. Now both entities have became music labels, and they're still conspirating together - for official releases this time! After licensing a Polyrhythmics track for the second Paris DJs Soundsystem compilation 'We Are The Fire Inside Your Mind', Paris DJs and Kept Records are proud to gather their mutual friends from Texas, Germany and France in the form of an exclusive joint-release of a two-tracks digital single.

Brownout is the band. Grant Phabao is the reggae/dub remixer. Renegades Of Jazz are the Bboy Editors. Ben Hito is the illustrator. Paris DJs and Kept Records are the label. You're SO gonna love this one.

Jungle Fire and Grant Phabao's musical universes collide with style & fashion on those remixes. The resulting combination is a unique 'Afrobeat meets Ska' concept, a blend of styles from L.A. to Paris creating a bridge between South America, Nigeria and Jamaica! Two explosive dancefloor fillers for sure.

Jungle Fire Tokuta Grant Phabao Remix

Press Release :
Paris DJs followers should be aware of the heavy afro/latin/funk greatness of Jungle Fire by now. The Jungle Fire band digs deep into afro/latin funk with an approach that is both authentic and highly explosive! Comprised of musicians from the Los Angeles region, Jungle Fire pulls from only those who are dedicated to preserving, protecting and progressing LA's funk and latin scenes. Members have performed with Stevie Wonder, Joe Bataan, Breakestra, Ozomatli, Quantic, Alice Russell, Celia Cruz, Orgone, The Greyboy Allstars and the list goes on.

The Los Angeles-based band have released two fantastic 45s through Ohio-based Colemine Records, and a series of remixes available digitally, cooked up by KidGusto, Whiskey Barons, Renegades Of Jazz, and French reggae/ska remixer extraordinaire Grant Phabao. His explosive rework of Jungle Fire's first single's b-side 'Tokuta', released february 2013, was dubbed 'sheer genius, a skanking juggernaut' by the Craig Charles Soul & Funk Show on the BBC. Jungle Fire and Grant Phabao's musical universes collide with style & fashion on this remix featuring the magical keys of Guillaume Méténier aka Soul Sugar on the b-side. The resulting combination is a unique 'Afrobeat meets Ska' concept, a blend of styles from L.A. to Paris creating a bridge between South America, Nigeria and Jamaica! An explosive dancefloor filler for sure.

The band's second seven inch, 'Firewalker', released in april 2013, is an irresistible raw Afro Disco number with a fuzzy bongo breakdown, such a killer track Paris DJs couldn't pass on licensing for their second afro/tropical compilation 'We Are The Fire Inside Your Mind'… and also have it remixed by Grant Phabao, once again, for a unique blend of Afro-Latin Disco Funk action and Jamaican Ska power, full of jumpin' skanks, dancin' breaks and funkin' horn licks. Listen, freak out, play it to the crowds, and watch them go nuts!! 'It's the finest piece of what this Los Angeles outfit has recorded so far. So rightfully remixed but what Parisian Grant Phabao is doing is simply genius.', said Craig Charles this time.

Grant Phabao is an amazing producer and multi-instrumentalist, recognized by many as 'the best sound engineer in Paris'. Backed by underground networker/A&R Djouls and designer Ben Hito, in the footsteps of his regular mixes on Paris DJs he's been putting out release after release every month, relentlessly. A steady flow of singles and albums including collaborations with the most gifted musicians from the Afro/Reggae/Funk scene, including, Ebo Taylor, George Clinton, The Cactus Channel, Alice Russell, Shawn Lee, Franck Biyong, Lee Fields, Antibalas, The Souljazz Orchestra, The Lone Ranger, Carlton Livingston, Echo Minott, The Jays, The Silvertones and the list goes on.

Two smashing combination tunes with Jamaican legends The Lone Ranger and Carlon Livingston… the two rhymesters kill it with style and fashion, over a thick and layered reggae riddim from multi-intrumentalist Grant Phabao on one side, a re-invention with an eye toward the past on another Grant Phabao roots reggae riddim, bringing back memories of breezy, sun-filled days on the island, on the other side. A welcome addition to the ever growing catalog of 21st century roots music from the Paris DJs label, with marvelous multicolored visuals for this limited edition 45 vinyl release coming out august 2014.

Grant Phabao The Lone Ranger Carlton Livingston Weh Reggae Come From

Press Release :
Featured early 2012 in Grant Phabao Live Soul System's 'Dubtape #2', the smashing combination of Jamaican legends The Lone Ranger and Carlon Livingston, after a digital single version in september 2013, finally gets a proper vinyl release!! Recorded a few years ago at Paris DJs' studios, 'Imitation Sounds' has been one of the label's Boom Bam secret weapons. Dissing all the imitators they've crossed in their 30-years long career of doing sound system clashes, all the sounds playing the same ganja, foundation, gangsta, juggling sets without any kind of innovation or creative spirit, the two rhymesters kill it with style and fashion, over a thick and layered reggae riddim from multi-intrumentalist Grant Phabao.
KA-BOOM! You're gonna play this one over and over.

On the B-side, Jamaican rub-a-dub deejay The Lone Ranger and singer Carlton Livingston are reinventing themselves with an eye toward the past on this brand new Grant Phabao roots reggae riddim, bringing back memories of breezy, sun-filled days on the island. The two Carribean rhymesters are bright, talented, and funny people who love being Jamaican. In this new single recorded at Paris DJs' studios in the French capital at the beginning of 2013, they express their love of reggae, Jamaican reggae - this spiritual, fun, unifying music, one of the greatest assets of the country (with the beaches and the jerk chicken of course).

'Take Her To Jamaica Weh Reggae Come From' is a new instant classic, a combination of The Lone Ranger deep and growling rub-a-dub verses, filled to the cup with the 'yeah', 'tell about it', 'boom', 'slang dang dang', 'how you mean' and other 'boom shack' slurs, with the sweet and soulful chorus from Carlton Livingston, the kind that gets stuck in the head and never leaves, bringing smiles to listeners' faces everytime. French producer Grant Phabao delivers an intense and profound instrumental, a cover of Ken Boothe's 'Artibella' from 1965, pure roots reggae music that could have been recorded decades ago in Jamaica by the greats, Bunny Lee, King Tubby, Lee Perry, etc. Close your eyes and listen carefully, you won't hear a one-man musical army trying desperately to add layers over layers. Instead you'll perceive a full band, all playing together an incredibly catchy melody on a funky one drop rhythm - think The Sound Dimension, The Aggrovators, or the Roots Radics!

A welcome addition to the ever growing catalog of 21st century roots music from the Paris DJs label, with marvelous multicolored visuals for this limited edition 45 vinyl release coming out august 2014.

Press Release :
Fourth in a series of five free EPs collecting the best reggae reworks from the Paris DJs Virtual Releases podcast in high-quality audio, entirely produced, mixed and newly remastered by French superproducer Grant Phabao, 'Solid Gold B-Boys' gathers four reworks of indie Hip Hop artists from the USA, Uk and France: N.A.S.A., Ty and Versus. Those four reggae reworks have generated more than 20.000 downloads in 128k MP3 through Paris DJs' podcast of free tracks.

American duo N.A.S.A. (alias Squeak E. Clean + DJ Zegon) and their amazing array of guest vocalists got the Grant Phabao reggae rework treatment twice! A first time in May 2009 when he was injecting some perfect-for-a-Friday irie type of vibes into the 'Money' single featuring no less than David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge & DJ Z-Trip, successfully turning this big big choon into a laid back, smooth grooving 100% Reggae Jam. And a second time in March 2011, adding a Jamaican dubby smile on Hip Hop feat. KRS-One, Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre, one of the coolest tributes to real hip-hop from the last years. Both remixes haven't aged much and bring nice flavors to any b-boying DJ set. Now when will N.A.S.A. come back with a new album full of tunes to rework?

Coming straight from the vaults of Paris DJs is a rare Grant Phabao remix of UK MC Ty dating from November 2006. Using the a capella from Don't What That (Knickers, Y-Fronts and Jock Straps), a single extracted from Ty's Closer album, the french dubmeister has build a complete new uptempo one drop riddim, encapsulating the original track in roots reggae flavor, 100% original Jamaican style. This remix was only downloadable for 24 hours at the time and finally gets a well-deserved free download liberation here...

Supporting our good ol' friend, doublebass player and now vinyl pressing officer Lawkyz, we couldn't pass on remixing a track from his Versus project, between hip hop, jazz, funk and blaxploitation. The band is playful and fun, sounding like early stuff from The Herbaliser with a distinguished French taste for Jazz musings. They're currently working on the follow-up to their first album from early 2012. Grant Phabao put his magic hands on the Mr Blue piece, and the result is astounding as always… Versus are immediately transported to Jamaican coasts, breakin' to hip hop while bouncing to reggae at the same time. A big smiley kind of tune.
