There's considerable evidence pointing to the undeniable creative chemistry between house music wizard the Juan MacLean and vocalist/former LCD Soundsystem member Nancy Whang, and "Feel Like Movin'" is the latest example of the magic that occurs when these two join forces. Taken from a split single from Shit Robot out today and released in advance of Juan's follow-up to 2008's solid The Future Will Come that's due next year, the eight-minute-plus track is pure DFA gold with a classic sound, right down to the blocky piano stabs and hollering vocal sample that adds a whiplash-inducing touch.
Whang's flatly expressive, up-with-people delivery provides excellent contrast to the track's effervescent, spacious ebuillence, capping off a year that has seen her deliver some of her best vocal performances yet-- including, fittingly, her other single with the Juan MacLean this year, the darkly shaded "You Are My Destiny". Unlike that tune's low-lit radiance, "Feel Like Movin'" is as gloriously beatific as house music gets, as Whang perfectly encapsulates the track's let's-go-dancing attitude with the turn of a single phrase: "It's the perfect night to get away." |
