50Weapons Closes Label After 10 Years

About an hour ago, the Facebook page of 50Weapons, the Berlin based record label created by Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary of Modeselektor and Moderat, that was home to artists such as Marcel Dettmann, Cosmic TRG, and Shed, posted a farewell message that closes with “R.I.P. 50Weapons 2005 – 2015.”

In the video, we see a 10-year album cover retrospective, with clips of tracks and bleeps put together to form a very fitting farewell to the label and it’s art direction over the years. We will report more news as it comes in, and we would suggest getting your hands on any of the 50Weapons records that you can as they will now become much harder to come by. Check out the video above for the official farewell. Thanks for all the year of great music by everyone involved. You will be missed.

mau5trap Announces the Signing of Matt Lange and his Debut LP

b0b09c0d-6071-4950-aa46-62836108fb55

mau5trap announces the signing of LA-based Producer/Composer/DJ, Matt Lange, with the forthcoming release of his debut LP, Ephemera. Hand-selected by deadmau5 himself via Twitter, Lange delivers his full-length debut with an intricately dark, textured, groove-heavy work of art, set to release on the 11th of September.

Ephemera’s title reflects the restless innovation in Lange’s musicianship. “The album’s really a snapshot of where I am right now as an artist,” Lange explains. “It’s this turning point where I have one foot in the world of dance music, and the other foot in a whole different direction.” Lange’s debut release on mau5trap reveals both the creative adventurousness and exquisite precision at the core of his sound. This may be his first LP, but the Berklee School of Music grad is a vet when it comes to musicianship, with most of Ephemera’s tracks starting out on guitar, piano, or a modular synthesizer.

Comprised of an eerie, dark breed of electronic music, Ephemera is also simultaneously brimming with raw energy and emotion. The album’s lead single, “My Love Aside,” is an infectious atmospheric-driven track, combined with mutated club-ready techno. Not one to stick to a formula, the album also displays Lange’s love for vocally-driven, left of center experimental numbers like “Lying to Myself.” Throughout, Ephemera is infused with an intense, menacing aura that challenges listeners’ ears and demonstrates Lange’s depth of connection between emotion and music.

Throughout Lange’s career, he has amassed quite the resume including helping to build and shape Above & Beyond’s underground-leaning label, Anjunadeep. The lifelong musician was called upon by BT to co-engineer his critically acclaimed, Grammy Award-nominated album These Hopeful Machines, and produced Glenn Morrison’s Canadian Platinum hit “Goodbye.” Lange officially reworked “Numb” by RCA recording artist, Usher, The M Machine’s “Shadow in the Rose Garden,” and “Ascendency” from the official soundtrack for Microsoft’s marquee game, Halo 4. He also currently has a remix in the works for Grammy-winning artist Imogen Heap, slated to release later this year.

Anyone lucky enough to catch one of Matt Lange’s DJ sets has experienced the unique blend of dark grooves he gives each and every night. From playing some of the most prominent festivals in the world such as EDC, TomorrowWorld and SXSW, to the intimate club nights he plays regularly around North America, be sure to catch him when you have the chance as he starts touring heavily in support of this release.

Preview a New Album from Donato Dozzy

Italian techno abstractionist Donato Dozzy has a new record forthcoming on Further, entitled The Loud Silence. Set for an official release on October 2, the LP finds him making use of a mouth harp, which (according to Resident Advisor and the label), has been “calling to Dozzy ever since childhood, when he had discovered the marranzanoon a holiday in Sicily with this parents.” The album was recorded in April 2013 both “indoors and outdoors, halfway up mountains and on the edge of the Mediterranean sea” in Italy. More complete details are available here, and two tracks from The Loud Silence can be streamed above.

Michael Brun and Roy English Soundtrack Your Summer With New Single – ‘Tongue Tied July’

The dog days of summer are here. Enter Michael Brun and Roy English with ‘Tongue Tied July’- a track that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the American summer.

No stranger to hit songwriting over dance-centric beats – his performance on Alesso’s ‘Cool’ is undoubtedly one of the best of 2015- Roy English has delivered an infectious top line for ‘Tongue Tied July’.  It gracefully blends with one of Brun’s strongest productions to date, marking a period of evolution for the young Haitian star. Brun slows down his club-driven style into a more organic and personal delivery with tinges of tropical percussion intermixed with his signature melodic prowess.  ‘Tongue Tied July’ is an American summer translated into notes, chords, melodies, and addictive vocals. Michael Brun and Roy English have something special here, indeed.

After his hit single collaboration – Alesso’s ‘Cool’- English has become one of 2015’s top artists to watch. He has collaborated behind the scenes with some of the most prolific producers in the music industry such as Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Fun), Teddy Riley (Michael Jackson), Rick Nowels (Lana Del Rey, Madonna), Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More), S1 (Watch The Throne, Beyonce), and Dave Sitek (Santigold, TV on the Radio). English’s time spent behind the scenes honing his skills as a songwriter and producer has aided him to create a precise vision for his personal work, which elaborates on his moody and atmospheric sensibilities, blending the orchestral elements of alt funk, lo-fi, and 90s house.

Michael Brun offers the perfect complement to Roy English as both of their careers take off.  Brun’s voracious production streak and keen sense for balance between melodies and dance-centric bombs have made him a mainstay in North America’s dance music scene. For Michael, ‘Tongue Tied July’ comes at the perfect time. It’s a fantastic follow up to his original collaboration with Rune RK and Denny White, ‘See You Soon’ – a track that has garnered over 1 million streams on Spotify in a short 6 weeks.

A breakout track for two breakout musicians, ‘Tongue Tied July’ will official release on Michael Brun’s very own Kid Coconut Records on August 7.
