Howling Release X Machina Remix EP
Today Howling released the X Machina Remix EP featuring a blissed out reimagining of ‘X Machina’ by DARKSIDE guitarist Dave Harrington as well as an artfully composed remix on ‘Short Line’ by German prepared piano master, Hauschka. After releasing their highly anticipated debut album Sacred Ground in May, Howling will be making their North American debut in New York at Output and Los Angeles at Lot 613 at the end of July. Howling, the live duo comprised of Ry X and Âme’s Frank Wiedemann, create beautifully hypnotic soundscapes, fusing a unique house mentality and the free flowing vocal prowess and production of Ry X.
Howling’s debut album Sacred Ground stands for many things at once: collaboration, improvisation, simplicity, unexpected happenstance. The original track ‘Howling’ exploded virally in early 2012 (via Dixon’s Boiler Room set), though hardly past demo stage at the time, and proceeded to climb charts and win awards throughout electronic music. The debut album received critical support from Wall Street Journal, XLR8R, THUMP, and garnered stellar reviews from Billboard, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, Indie Shuffle and many more. After bringing their captivating live show to acclaimed European stages like Berlin Festival 2015, France’s famous Nuits Sonores Festival, and a number of the infamous ‘Lost in a Moment’ parties hosted by Innervisions, Howling is set to make their North American debut.
“Our process was very, very organic. For both of us, it’s just about the creation. Each song has a little journey of its own. The vision’s beautiful between us because there’s a lot of trust. It’s a very intuitive process where we fall in love with one element of the song or one element of a thought, and we follow that until both of those ideas have been met.” – Ry X, Howling

Thomas Jack Unveils New Single, “Rivers”
A new anthem for the summer has finally been unveiled, and it comes in the form of ‘Rivers’ – an original single from tropical house tastemaker and globetrotting DJ/producer and Thomas Jack. ‘Rivers’ builds upon the sound’s usual laid-back style with an up-tempo summer cocktail of classical guitar flourishes, organic percussion, and infectious vocals from collaborators Jack McManus and Tim Woodcock.
‘Rivers’ was produced by Thomas Jack and the German progressive house artist JUNKX, and is being released on Pete Tong’s own FFRR Records.
It’s fitting for Thomas to be releasing his track on Pete Tong’s FFRR. As a long time flagbearer for and curator within the dance music scene, Tong is a fitting mentor for Jack, an influencer and performer whose aspirations fly much further than simply DJing.
The man behind the global phenomenon that has been tropical house is a steward of experiences and genres, and how they intersect with all types of music. Little wonder, then, that Jack has been pegged to host his own stages at major festivals like TomorrowWorld and Splash House.
Honey Soundsystem Relaunches Label with Two New EPs
Bay Area DJ/art collective Honey Soundsystem relaunches its eponymous imprint next month with a pair of 12″s from founding members Jackie House and Robert Yang (a.k.a. Bézier). The group, which we profiled as part of Bubblin’ Up week in 2014 and also includes Jason Kendig and Dark Entries label head Josh Cheon, has thrown its collective muscle into residencies in LA, Chicago, and its home city of San Francisco recently, but the two forthcoming records mark a renewed emphasis on vinyl releases.
Titled 皆, which translates as “Everyone,” Bézier’s three-tracker is described as “a journey through space” that culminates in “an interplanetary discoteque” featuring SF drummer Kevin Woodruff. Scheduled for simultaneous release, Jackie House’s vinyl debut Stydive has “as much house party in it as it does warehouse 4am,” and enlistsMatrixxman for a b-side remix. Both EPs are out on August 10 and can be previewed below.
