Polaris Music Prize 2015 gala performers, grand jury revealed

Several questions surrounding the 2015 Polaris Prize Gala were answered today, including which shortlisted artists will perform at the gala and the eleven members of the Canadian music media that will made up this year's grand jury.

The gala performers will be Alvvays, Braids, Jennifer Castle, Tobias Jesso Jr, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Viet Cong.

Not performing will be BADBADNOTGOOD and Ghostface Killah, the New Pornographers, Caribou, and Drake (who has yet to publicly acknowledge either of his short list nominations).

Of note:

–This is Braids' second time on the short list and their second time performing at the gala.

–This is also Alvvays guitarist Alec O'Hanley's second time performing at the gala, his first was with his former band Two Hours Traffic.

–Viet Cong are performing at the gala despite being called out by first-ever Polaris Prize winner Owen Pallett, who said in a public Facebook post that "this year's Polaris ceremony [should] include a forced changing of Viet Cong's band name to something less blazingly offensive".

–At age 74, Buffy Sainte-Marie is not only the oldest artist to ever be nominated and also the oldest to ever perform at the gala.

The 2015 Polaris Music Prize grand jury is as follows:

Alicia Atout (A Music Blog Yea?), Sarah Greene (Exclaim), Ty Harper (City On My Back), Donna Hopper (Village Media), Ken Kelley (Music Nerd Chronicles and ex-Monoxides drummer), Sarah Kitteringham (Beatroute), Barnaby Marshall (New Canadian Music), Dave Morris (freelance), Alan Neal (CBC Ottawa), Renato Pagnani (Edmonton Journal), Jen Zoratti (Winnipeg Free Press).

What do you think of this year's performing artists? Should Viet Cong be allowed to perform? Do you agree with Owen Pallett that the band should change their name? What about the jury?
