German artist Volker Bertelmann (a.k.a. Hauschka) is one of the foremost composers and musicians pushing the envelope of piano performance. His latest LP, Abandoned City (released via City Slang/Temporary Residence LTD.), saw the established talent explore his craft further, with his propensity for using prepared pianos resting at the center of the record's improvised offerings. Now, the former Artist Tips contributor has taken some time to further reveal his own prepared piano techniques in a new series of short films.

Today, the fledgling Modern Math label drops its first vinyl release, the four-track White Label Renegade EP from Vancouver producer Taal Mala. Featured here is the new effort's title track, a bass-loaded affair which fits classic vocal chops, thick breaks, and an array of space-age percussion and FX between its strong-armed kicks and snares. A true hybrid, "White Label Renegade" connects various points from drum & bass, juke, and rave to result in a heavy, club-minded concoction.

The Los Angeles dance scene is at once effortlessly cosmopolitan, and confoundingly insular. Home to superstars like Daft Punk, certifiable legends like Todd Edwards, underground icons like Flying Lotus, and scores of anonymous ghost producers crafting EDM hits, Southern California hosts a rather diverse swath of the electronic landscape. Granted, this isn't exactly surprising, as LA's hills and quality of life (read: weather) regularly attract outsiders. LA's enormous size, not to mention the fact that it's literally home to the bulk of the entertainment industry, often means that local producers can garner international acclaim while remaining relatively unknown within city limits, and the abundance of cheap tacos, (effectively) legal weed, and pool and park parties provides ample respite from the hustle. On a more practical level, LA's sprawling warehouse districts—which lie mostly south and east of downtown—are a draw to rave promoters of all stripes. These venues—of varying legal status—regularly feature quality DJs from around the globe, yet they open and shut their doors in alarmingly short increments. (Recent months have seen the LAPD shutting down a number of underground events, and some of the city's more offbeat venues have also fallen victim to official rules and regulations.) With so many things happening and a status quo that's constantly in flux, taking the pulse of LA's dance scene can occasionally be as frustrating as driving from Santa Monica to downtown during rush hour.

In its original form Ligovskoï's (a.k.a. Nikolaï Azonov and Valerio Selig) "Goha" is a weightless composition which aimlessly moves through angelic drones and bright, airy textures. For their collaborative remix together as HBTVSK, French producers Heartbeat and Voiski reimagine the track as an expansive and dark techno excursion, lacing the floating textures of Ligovskoï's original with thick drum machine rhythms and an extra dose of grit. The 10-plus minute HBTVSK remix featured is set to be included on Azonov's and Selig's upcoming collaborative Dilip EP, which can be previewed after the jump before its sees its official release on July 21 via the Dement3d label.

Lee Gamble has been releasing music since the mid '00s, but it was a pair of 2012 records for PAN, Diversions 1994-1996 and Dutch Tvashar Plumes, that really pushed the experimental UK producer into the spotlight. He's largely been quiet on the release front since then, but news broke today that Gamble will soon be returning to the avant-garde outpost with a new EP and LP.
