Throughout the week, a whole lot of material gets posted here on XLR8R. And while we know—and love—that some hardcore readers will eagerly pour over every single news story, interview, podcast, video, and MP3 download that appears on the site, we also realize that for most people, it's impossible to see everything, which means that some quality XLR8R content is likely to get missed in the hustle and bustle of everyone's daily lives. In the interest of making it easier for everyone to catch up, every Friday we present The Lowdown, a weekly wrap-up of the top 10 tidbits from our site.

Having recently released the Cupid's Head LP (the opening track of which was one of our favorites of the year) via Kompakt under his more common handle, The Field, Axel Willner has announced that he'll drop a new album early next year as HANDS.

Most of the XLR8R audience has likely noticed all of the Best of 2013 articles over the past two weeks, and while we'd like to think that everyone is happily devouring what we have to say about this year's crop of music, we're also fairly certain that our readers have plenty of opinions of their own. Given that, we've once again decided to roll out an official year-end readers poll and find out what everyone has to say.

Italian producer and RBMA grad Broke One has self-released a two-track digital single today, for which "Lovefool" serves as the virtual a-side. Living up to its title, the lovey-dovey house tune wraps a series of deep chords around a relaxed procession of shuffling drums. There's a slight hesitation to the rhythms of "Lovefool"—though that's what really gives it a proper swing, which in turn gives Broke One's purple synthscapes and finely executed series of vocal loops the perfect bed to rest atop.

Between Scuba's upcoming North American tour and Crosstown Rebels' 10th anniversary compilation in the works, 2014 looks as if it'll already be off to a good start for the two dance-music patrons, and we can now add to that a 12" which finds the Berlin-based producer (pictured above) remixing Pezzner & Amina's "Exit" single for the UK label.

Yesterday, we kicked XLR8R's Best of 2013 coverage into high gear with a list containing the first half of our favorite tracks of the year. Now, we're rounding out the week with the second half, which comprises our top 25 tracks of 2013. Without question, it's a varied collection of tunes, but in a year when the best electronic music came from all across the map, this list offers an accurate representation of our listening habits over the past 12 months.

Live* & Locked—a recently released record from anonymous producer Bintus—ends each of the seven abrasive techno cuts on vinyl in a locked groove, mostly as a functional choice to assist DJ mixes. "Cylinder-Bop," a distorted slab of minimal drumwork, ushers in creepy arpeggios and an overcooked acid bass to supplement its biting percussive range. A preview of the full Bintus EP can be found after the jump.

Laui XIV, Phillip Lauer's latest 12", is made of familiar parts. Lauer isn't exactly a conservative producer, but he is the sort of guy who's often referred to as "reliable" or "consistent." In short, he's someone who knows his way around the machines but doesn't always stand out—his Arto Mwambe project with Christian Beißwenger is still probably his high-water mark in that regard. True to form, the tracks here are well-crafted, but might be too familiar to escape sets' filler sections.

Maybe it's because of the impending holidays, but the selections in this week's Press Play are a touch more esoteric than usual. But the best part of this ongoing feature of ours is sharing and discovering new music at the click of a button, so a few extra bits of obscure music should actually make this installment even more interesting. Plus, we've also got DJ mixes, free downloads, record streams, music videos, and more to dig into from the likes of J Dilla, Slugabed, HTRK, Kevin Saunderson, Mumdance, Lee Bannon, Erol Alkan, Vondelpark, and James T Cotton, among others. It all can be experienced in full after the jump.

London upstart label Chasing Toulouse continues its line of free digital releases with a three-song EP from UK producer Moet & Benson, D.P.I. Poland-based artist Klaves' easygoing take on the title track toys with dynamic volume effects, rapidly fading finely grained synth chords in and out to achieve a pleasant texture. Scrapping the massive snare hits and spoken word segue of the original production, Klaves' trim remix further emphasizes the rhythmic interplay between its stuttering vocals and the taut, garage-indebted percussion. A stream and free download of the full Moet & Benson EP can be found after the jump.
