Ahead of the ninth instalment in the annual Worldwide Awards at Koko, we will be shedding light on the artists performing through a series of questions. Up next we have Ady Suleiman.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.? My name is Ady Suleiman. I am 21 years of age, I live in Nottingham City and was born just outside in Grantham Town. My mum has lived in this area of the UK her whole life but my dad is from Zanzibar, Tanzania thats why i have a funny name and aN incredible skin complexion . I’ve always had an interest in music but never taken it seriously until I went to Liverpool to study music at Uni. I love football, skateboarding, surfing and festivals. How would you describe your music? I would describe my music as raw and honest which combines a mixture of genres that have influenced me such as blues, jazz, soul, RnB, reggae and hip-hop. I feel my voice gives my music its identity and therefore hope these influences comes across in my vocal tone and delivery. I write all my songs to date on acoustic guitar. I hope my music sounds new and relevant but has a classic feel. My music is more based around live sound than programmed but i hope to find the perfect blend between these on record as I am also influenced my acts such as James Blake and Jamie Woon, Kendrick Lemar, Frank Ocean. Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production? Tricky question because I have not finished full production on one of my songs, but I have a lot of production influences, including: Albums Salaam Remi work on Amy Winehouse’s Frank album Malay work on Frank Ocean’s ‘Orange’ album Production on Miseducation of Lauren Hill Album (Lauryn Hill, Vada Nobles, Che’ Guevara) Production on D’Angelo Voodoo (D’Angelo (also exec.), DJ Premier, Russell Elevado, J Dilla, Questlove,Raphael Saadiq, Dominique Trenier) Production on Kendrick Lamar album ‘Good kid, Maad city’ (Dr. Dre (exec.), Anthony “TOPDAWG” Tiffith (exec.), Dawaun Parker, DJ Khalil, DJ Dahi, Hit-Boy, Jack Splash, Just Blaze, Like, Pharrell Williams, Rahki, Scoop DeVille, Skhye Hutch, Soundwave, T-Minus,dTabu, Terrace Martin, Tha Bizness, THC) Robert Glasper’s work on ‘Black radio’ and ‘Black Radio 2′ Erykah Badu Baduizm (Erykah Badu, Jaífar Barron, Robert Bradford, Madukwu Chinwah, JaBorn Jamal, Ike Lee III, Richard Nichols, James Poyser, Bob Powers, The Roots, Tone the Backbone) Producers Lee Scratch Perry J.Dilla DJ premier Salaam Remi Mark Ronson If you could give a musical award of the year, what would it be and for whom? Most Inspirational Grammy Nomination – goes to Hiatus Kiaotye for getting nominated for best RnB Performance. Crazy to think they are nominated for a grammy being independent and not hugely successful atm…well deserved. Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to? Nah man send them to my soundcloud Please can you provide your social media links? www.facebook.com/adysuleimanmusic www.twitter.com/adysuleiman www.soundcloud.com/adysuleiman View other artist profiles performing at the Worldwide Awards: JIMI TENOR // THE INTERNET // JON WAYNE |
