Thanks to the fearless ways of TMZ, it looks like we have some sort of timeframe on when we might expect another Gnarls Barkley full-length. It was promised earlier on in the year by Cee-Lo, but now 2014 looks like the year of another fine collaboration between the Goodie Mob frontman and producer Danger Mouse. No further details were left on the table, but this is certainly some good news heading into the new year. Watch the TMZ video below. |

Originally premiering on a Kitty Cash mixtape, “Bleach Pool” is a song we are only getting around to now. Produced and written by James King of the GTW, the melodic track is a fantastic extension of what we have already heard from the unit thus far. I feel like I gush over every track coming out of the GTW’s studio right now, but every track seems to be just a little bit more catchy than the next. “Bleach Pool” is no exception. Stream “Bleach Pool” below. |

You should know we dig Rich Kidd around here but it’s time to start taking Adam Bomb and Tona pretty serious too. The three Toronto artists were recruited by Brian E. to create a musical accompaniment to his brand’s (the Legends League) fall/winter 2013 collection. From there, the Naturally Born Strangers were born. Using instrumentals from Rich, the three artists spit heavy hitting bars making their chemistry seem like they’ve been together for years. Now, you can check out the video for their single, “Tie Breaker”, a song and video about how love will prevail over all. |

I’m not entirely sure what’s happening in Disclosure‘s new video for “Voices” featuring Sasha Keable, but I think I sort of have an idea. So there’s this queen-like character wearing a white dress who causes speaker systems levitate and smoke to pour out of walls. And she’s doing her thing while a bunch of inmates gyrate, dance, and shake their asses on the gym floor and in the bleachers. They then eventually join her for this huge routine that might, um, just be happening all in the one woman’s head?! WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Rising Irish MC Rejjie Snow has seen himself be compared to countless artists during his 2013 rise. But after hearing a wide array of output, I think it is safe to say Snow has successfully carved a lane of his own. But he hasn’t done so without channeling a handful of hip-hop luminaries. Like DOOM, which he seems to have tastefully borrowed from on “Nights Over Georgia”, as he raps with a similar cadence and delivery. And the production is absolutely stunning, as Snow samples some sentimental nostalgia from old jazz records. Dear Annie, apparently, is coming soon. |

Christmas is nearly here, and what better way to celebrate than with some heavily based instrumentals from the Knoxville, TN hip-hop label, Gold Standard. Calling on a number of notable and rising producers, the 13 song compilation features a wide variety of holiday-themed tracks. And while I could go on and on about how fly some of the songs are on here, I figured I would let the label give you some further detail. Because, well, their description of this album over on Bandcamp is pretty flawless. Oh, and that cover! gold standard hip-hop, knoxville, tn’s home for alternative, independent, and oddball rap & hip-hop, presents our first ever christmas mixtape. thanks to everyone who helped make this thing come together really quickly. the beautiful cover art is by sarah basiri.Stream and download the project below. |

As we reflect on 2013, it is safe to say Danny Brown‘s Old was one of the strongest releases. Filled with explosive singles, perhaps our favorite cut from the full-length was “Dip”. Today the Bruiser Brigade producer Dayggs took a stab at the track by providing his very own remix. Taking an alternative approach to the anthem, Dayggs fills in the gaps with a luxurious lounge-induced rendition. While we wouldn’t recommend any producers try and outdo the original performance, we can’t help but applaud Dayggs’ efforts. Stream the remix below. |

In 2014, Waterstrider plans to release a full length album. If you haven’t heard of them, then I’d advise you to read these words and listen to the sounds at the bottom of this post. Waterstrider, from Berkeley, Calif., has been making and releasing music for the better part of a five years, but their biggest release yet is this cover of Little Dragon‘s “Twice”. Describing their music as “melancholic and dreamy” to “foot-stomping revelry”, they have their sound down pat, leaving no doubt that their full length effort will be something special.

The co-produced beat on this track is quintessentially nostalgic, and that’s reason enough to check it out, honestly. D.C. MC Sophisticated flows steadily through the affair with an antiquey tone of his own, too, offering introspective lines that melt in your mind as the effort unwinds, and it becomes a task to refrain from the replay button after each listen.
Sophisticated entered our radar a month ago with his impressive (and overlooked) Declaration EP, which you can download for free HERE, and the fresh effort of his released yesterday solidifies his status as an artist to keep an eye on. With tracks like “What I Feel II” appearing out of the blue, there’s no telling what additional material the self-proclaimed perfectionist has to bestow unexpectedly upon us. |
