There's this thing in German that we call a "Schnapszahl": literally meaning "schnapps number", it refers to repdigits... multidigit numbers with all digits identical. Why this highbrow introduction, you ask? Well, our very own Denis Stockhausen celebrates his 33rd birthday with an awesome party at Gewölbe on Saturday, September 21st, and rest assured that the "schnapps" part of the lengthy explanation above will get its due attention. And if that incentive is not enough for you, you'll also be treated to DJ sets from very special guest Dinky (who returns to the Gewölbe for an encore after last year's fabulous stint) and the ominous Stocksaur DJ Team a.k.a. the "Warehouse Dreamboys" (consisting of host Denis Stockhausen and his partner in crime Jo Saurbier). It was only a question of time until somebody would come up with a DIY video for Rampa & Re.You's rework of Terranova's "Painkiller". One of the highlights of the "Painkiller Remixe" EP, this witty floor tonic features some rather unusual sound choices and the corporate ethos of a mad lab rat. Joyfully erratic in their appropriation of the original material, the two house anarchists of KEINEMUSIK fame cram all sorts of weird stuff into their trolling remix - including a live rattlesnake, as it seems. Dance, mothertrucker, dance... and don't forget to wear the most awesome "Painkiller" T-Shirt, while you're at it. |

Our Pop Up Store Berlin might be over, but the birthday festivities continue - in Brussels, where the 20JK party train makes a stop for an all-star billing at superclub Mirano on Friday, September 13th. Again, it's a stellar line-up featuring some of Kompakt's most revered acts, including label honcho Michael Mayer, techno troubadour Justus Köhncke, house activist Tobias Thomas, pop maestros COMA, DJ duo infernale Stocksaur (Denis Stockhausen & Jo Saurbier) and VJ fuss-pot Okinawa 69.  The 20JK Pop Up Store Berlin rounds off its tightly packed program on Saturday, September 7th, - seize the moment and drop by! The final day of the store invites you to celebrate with some of Kompakt's cherished DJs and live acts performing: beginning at 16:00, it's the last hurrah for the pop-up store, and we’ve got a great line-up from our label in store. Label co-founder Michael Mayer starts things off with a DJ set - if you’ve heard Mayer’s "Immer" series of DJ mixes, then you know that his skilled selection is not to be missed. Following mainstream success in the 90s with legendary Whirlpool Productions (“From: Disco To: Disco”), Justus Köhncke has spent the last decade releasing top-tier house on Kompakt - expect a decidedly leftfield and highly engaging party vibe for his live set. Relative newcomers to the scene, COMA will close things out: their recent debut, "In Technicolor", sees the duo successfully bursting through club conventions for a diverse and jubilating sound. The in-store closing party will then progress to mighty Berghain/Panorama Bar, where an epic event including key players like Kölsch, John Tejada, Blond:ish, Rebolledo and more will raise many a roof... full info here! UK musicologists Flux Music snatched a grandiose mix from Terranova for their podcast series and it's a veritable delight, stuffed to the brim with feisty grooves, exclusive cut-ups and new material from Kompakt's neo-house dons, who just rocked our boats at the Kompakt Boiler Room takeover - it just might be the most rewarding Terranova mix yet, which says a lot... Poland's Tauron Nowa Musyka festival will take place in an abandoned coal-mine in Katowice, from September 12th through 15th this year. Typically a mix of electronic styles, Tauron headliners include Squarepusher, Jon Hopkins, Vladislav Delay and plenty more. The festival's eighth edition also includes a Kompakt showcase with Gregor Schwellenbach giving his festival debut playing "20 Jahre Kompakt" at the Wigwam Stage. He'll be joined by Matias Aguayo (performing with Chilean noise-duo Mostro), Coma, DJ Koze, Robag Wruhme and Sid le Rock, all playing at the Red Bull Music Academy Club Stage.
