Seems to be the beginning of a chill week here at Kompakt, with three fresh ambient releases hitting our front page at the same time. Pop Ambient stalwart Marsen Jules had his finger in two thirds of the available pies: besides presenting his own new full-length "Beautyfear" on Oktaf Records, he's also contributed to "Pop Ambient 2014", the latest instalment in the classic series. His cut "The Philosophers Trap" is a bizarre soundscape of sublime elegance, a notion perfectly mirrored by the accompanying video: premiered by German lifestyle/art outfit Monopol, it was produced by Swedish artist Anders Weberg and captures the mood of the piece with floating, human-like silhouettes. Check out Monopol's video premiere here and if you're already strolling down the path of beatless bliss, don't forget to also have a look at Vermont's "Majestät" - the first single from the new project helmed by Marcus Worgull and Motor City Drum Ensemble's Danilo Plessow. This Monday went down easier than expected!

Nearly forgot, I take up the last half hour after DK on Solid Steel this week with a companion piece to last weeks mix – very mellow and a bit dark in places too.

Moon Wiring Club does it again with another package – this time on CD and Cassette only – no vinyl. I’m not quite sure what the difference in names means between the two formats but I’m assured they are different in sound as well as shape. Order here, there are three new prints too…

UK musicologists Flux Music snatched a grandiose mix from Terranova for their podcast series and it's a veritable delight, stuffed to the brim with feisty grooves, exclusive cut-ups and new material from Kompakt's neo-house dons, who just rocked our boats at the Kompakt Boiler Room takeover - it just might be the most rewarding Terranova mix yet, which says a lot... Fetisch and &ME never fail to impress, as can be heard on their new "Painkiller Remixe" EP. Catch the bug here!

The Quietus turns five: happy birthday!

        The Quietus

Over the past half-decade, The Quietus has taken to the barricades to fight the cause of music that would otherwise be ignored

"I'd just been sacked from a corporate communications company," remembers John Doran, of the dark days just before he began The Quietus, the online hub of crackling, opinionated music, film and literature journalism that celebrates its fifth birthday this month. "They'd replaced the office kitchen with an empty 'thinkspace', called 'The Imaginarium'. I fired off an indignant and drunk email to my bosses, calling their language-mangling ways into question."
