Resident PAN experimentalist Lee Gamble has offered up a haunting rework of London outfit PANES' debut single, "Choice Errors." Maiming the jazz-inflected original cut with layers of echoing vocals and red-line percussion, Gamble harnesses lead singer (and daughter of Neneh Cherry) Tyson McVey's sensual performance as a textural element for his violent, minimalist vision. The original "Choice Errors" tune—a soaring soul number with organic, sampled instrumentation—can be streamed after the jump. (via FACT) read more |

In a rather vague video released by Roland today, the company teases the Aira, a forthcoming unit from the company that claims to be "the next step" in the evolution of the 808. For those who have been following Night Slugs and label co-founder James Connolly (a.k.a. L-Vis 1990) closely over the past year or two, Connolly's new, decidedly Dance Mania-influenced Dance System project is unlikely to come as much of a surprise. The launch of Night Slugs' Club Constructions series in 2012 with L-Vis 1990's own stripped-down, five-track EP clearly signalled the label's interest in mechanistic, hard-driving simplicity, and presented a logical counterpoint to the increasingly cerebral, abstract house mutations the imprint had been offering from the likes of Girl Unit and Jam City. Despite being the label's co-founder (alongside Bok Bok), Connolly's own music has often occupied a strategically tenuous position in relation to Night Slugs, and his career thus far has seen him release records on a diverse array of outside labels, including PMR, Mad Decent, and most recently, Clone's Jack for Daze subsidiary.

Yuri Méndez Jr.'s production project Pajaro Sunrise (pictured above) released the Kulturkatzenjammer LP back in November of last year, and he's following it up with a batch of remixes, including DJ/producer Marc Piñol's longform disco verson of "Long Forgotten Flower." The production's smooth bassline pushes along the recurring vocal snippets as phasers bubble across the stereo field. read more |
