The Goliaths of contemporary music are apparently joining forces for a new show penned by Irvine Welsh
Calvin Harris, Jay Z and Will Smith are reportedly joining forces with Irvine Welsh to create an HBO comedy about EDM.
We'll say that again including a little more detail, just so you can fully digest this unsubstantiated gossip: Scottish DJ turned stoic popstar Calvin Harris, Beyoncé's husband Jay Z, and former Fresh Prince Will Smith are teaming up with Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh to create a funny TV show about electronic dance music.
According to Deadline, the three musicians are working together with HBO to develop a 30-minute series entitled Higher, which is "set in the world of electronic music". Along with wife Jada Pinkett, Smith will serve as executive producer with Jay Z, both of whom are also linked to the forthcoming Annie remake. Higher, however, is just the latest on-screen EDM tribute we've heard about in the past year, with Diplo's forthcoming film, which is apparently gunning for "Eminem and Christopher Walken at a Manchester rave", also in the making.
So is the world ready for Calvin's Comedy? Could they call it that? What's funny about EDM? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
