After a flurry of leaked images and speculation about the Aira TR-08 followed last week's news of Roland's plans to take "the next step" in the lineage of the TR-808, the company has now shared a video which chronicles the making of the TR-909 and hints that the legendary ryhthym box may be in line for a similar reboot. read more |

After establishing his solo career throughout 2013, San Francisco DJ/producer Matrixxman is kicking off 2014 with a new remix of King of Arabs' "We Are Bored in the City," a tune featured on the third volume of the Nasty Rips and Shifting Peaks compilation (out on February 3). The production is carried by a shy 4/4 beat, as the rhythm weaves from a minimalist house groove, takes an extended breath, and continues its upward trajectory into an upbeat, dream-like atmosphere. read more |

Late last year, Teengirl Fantasy (a.k.a. Nick Weiss and Logan Takahashi) released the four-track Nun EP, the pair's first proper release since its sophomore LP, Tracer, landed in 2012. Now, with the outfit's 2014 release schedule still forming, Weiss and Takahashi have revealed plans for an upcoming spring tour which will find the two beginning their voyage in New York before crossing the Atlantic to perform around the UK, Netherlands, France, and Germany, among a number of other European destinations. In tow with the announcement comes "TonBase," a new production that finds the duo weaving an unsteady, bell-like arpeggio into a collage of 160-bpm drum patterns, bulbous analog bass, and drifting chords. The full details of Teengirl Fantasy's upcoming tour can be peeped after the jump. read more |

UK bassline/2-step specialist DJ Q has been keeping busy over the past year, dropping single after single via London's Local Action label and his own Q Recordings imprint. As one third of the powerhouse Hessle Audio imprint (alongside Ben UFO and Pearson Sound), Pangaea (a.k.a. Kevin McAuley) has spent the last few years amongst the forefront of producers pushing the UK dance music world past dubstep and into a decidedly more hybridized territory. Yet Pangaea by and large hasn't found the same levels of acclaim that are frequently heaped on both of his fellow label heads. His output doesn't have the housier tendencies—not to mention the broader appeal—of Pearson Sound, and he similarly lacks the cultural cache and tastemaker status of Ben UFO, and while this has probably led to McAuley being overlooked in a broader sense, it's something that's also a reflection of his careful and considered approach to both producing and DJing. read more |

Every Tuesday morning, XLR8R presents the latest installment of its podcast series, highlighting an exclusive mix from an artist whose work has piqued our interest in some way. Having posted more than 300 podcast mixes over the years, it's safe to say that a wide variety of acts have contributed to the series, from intriguing up-and-comers (some of which were never heard from again) to indisputable electronic music legends. And though we're generally quite enthusiastic about all of our podcasts, we're not ashamed to admit that our anticipation levels do spike when someone particularly exciting agrees to participate. Today is one of those instances, as this week's mix was delivered by UK producer and Werkdiscs boss Darren Cunningham (a.k.a. Actress).
