Ahead of the ninth instalment in the annual Worldwide Awards at Koko, we will be shedding light on the artists performing through a series of questions. Here we have for you, Kyodai.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.? Our real names are Javier (Jay) Garayalde & Luis Garayalde, We come from a musical family from the Basque Country North of Spain, our Father is a scholar, saxophone and clarinet player, he gave us classical and Jazz education in the Conservatory, and we have been part of various jazz bands along with him, we both play keys and different instruments, but Louis has more expertise on piano and bass and Jay on drums, vibes and percussion, but we were always traveling and we have been living several years in Brazil and afterwards between Brazil and Madrid and two years ago we moved to Berlin, when we are settle and very comfortable so far, we think stay here maybe for long time, Kyodai’s name came one day thinking about names for a brand new project, perhaps because since we were playing in Japan with our other projects we have an special relationship with Japanese things. How would you describe your music? Uhh he he… always is difficult for and artist to describe his own music, but we could say that Kyodai, is a mixture of all our influences and musical tastes, starting from Jazz, Latin and Soul and ending with more electronic stiles to finalize focusing on deep house and techno.  Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production? Always the Classics, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker, Coltrane, Fania All Starts, Mizell Brothers, George Duke and many more. If you could give a musical award of the year, what would it be and for whom?
