Len Faki Shares Details of Upcoming Release on Figure

Berlin based DJ, producer, and label owner Len Faki, is currently one of the most outstanding and in-demand artists in today’s techno scene. Being a resident atBerghain since its opening has kept him constantly transformative as both a dj and producer, and now with his brand new release Street Dub marking Figure‘s 70th release, he is again leaving his musical footprint on the global techno community.

Packaged together in three different versions, Street Dub stylishly treads the borders between classic dub techno and modern club weaponry. As a bonus, an ‘Ambience’ mix is included, stripping away all the percussion and letting the beautiful subtleties of Faki’s production bubble to the surface. You can find out more about Len Faki’s lengthy label history on Juno Records, and you can see Len perform this weekend at the Monasterio night at the Space Moscow by clicking here.

Global Communication remixes Dusky

tom-middleton-dusky

Global Communication has remixed Dusky on a new 12-inch, out today.

Originally a duo made up of Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton, Global Communication was one of the most important electronic acts of the ’90s, especially in the realm of ambient music—their 1994 LP 76:14 is by and large considered a classic of the genre. The duo parted ways in 1997, and aside from a few DJ mixes since then, have been silent on the production front. That changes with these two takes on Dusky’s “Skin Deep,” though the remixes were only done by Middleton, using the Global Communication name. The EP comes via 17 Steps.

“Traditionally, the Global Communication philosophy is all about distilling and channeling pure emotions into sound,” Middleton says. “Dusky’s productions stand well apart from the current wave of mediocre ’90s style soundalikes by being both reverentially respectful to their ’90s inspiration but clearly paving the way forward in their harmonic content, emotional purity and production discipline. Even without the stems, I could feel the intensity in the original string and pad harmonies, and the potential in the lyrics.

These led me into the depths of ambient soundscaping experiments with classic GC synth arpeggiation and TB-303 flourishes for the initial dubbed-out remix direction. Dropping in a surprise gritty old school jungle breakbeat or two after the drop was pure instinct from producing and DJing since 1990! I just had to take the track into anthemic one more tune warehouse party territory to induce a screwface eyes-closed bass and beats moment… A genuine pleasure to remix.”
