Have you ever imagined smoking weed with Jesus in space? Have you ever thought about having an almighty God as your drug dealer? Do you think you’d be able to get the Goddesses of love and wisdom in your backseat? Well, Azizi Gibson is entirely too familiar with all of those things—and apparently Allah has that fiya.

In his latest, trippy-as-ever video for “Smoking With the Gods,” Gibson delves into the world of sticky green stuff with a couple of deities. He also finesses getting Afrodite and Athena in the back of his low rider with Allah ridin’ shotty and good ol’ J.C. manning the backseat. Who would have thought that the Gods would be so rad to hang out with? You can catch this track, produced by Intellect, on the Brainfeeder rep’s latest album Backward Books.

ethereal blacklist Listen: Ethereal Takes On Dirty Music Industry Politics On Blackli$t Project

Awful Records has been a big part of Atlanta’s surging underground scene, and yesterday we got the latest release from the independent label in Ethereal‘s newest effort, titled Blackli$t. Just one month removed from the release of his Cactus Jack project, Ethereal drops another seven-track project entirely produced by himself. His production style is similar to his rapping style in the sense that it’s very unwise and stands out amongst most other hip-hop sounds. My favorite track, “Ground,” has a smooth, nostalgic bass line and sample that acts as the perfect canvas for Ethereal to paint his rhymes on—it really makes this track pop. There’s isn’t much inflection in his voice, but the fullness of this instrumental makes his monotone rap style stand out more than usual.

You can stream Blackli$t below and cop it here.

lord raja album art Listen: Lord RAJA Teams Up With Jeremiah Jae For Van Go

As we previously reported, Lord RAJA is releasing his new album, A Constant Moth, through Ghostly on Dec. 2. While the majority of the effort features instrumental cuts from the producer, he’s joined forces with previous collaborator Jeremiah Jae for what’s sounding like a highlight in “Van Go.” Backed by RAJA’s wonderfully oddball instrumental, Jae raps through a (mostly) pitched-up vocal effect about getting patted down overseas, being humble with a serious bark, and turning enemies into pink salmon. It’s all so perfectly strange and mesmerizing that I guarantee you’ll be hitting the play button at least a handful of times before you leave this post.

You can hear “Van Go” below and pre-order the album here.

kenn starr hat Finally, Kenn Starr Announces A New Album

kenn starr hat Finally, Kenn Starr Announces A New Album

I have been waiting for a new album from Kenn Starr for what honestly feels like forever. Actually, 2006 to be exact, as that’s when he dropped his friggin’ great debut, Starr Status, and had underground hip-hop heads fiending for more. I know this because the OkayPlayer message boards turned me on to the project with rave reviews, which were proven true as soon as I picked up a copy of the record. And since 2010, we’ve been hearing rumors of his followup album, Square One, but with very little information in terms of producers, release dates, features, etc.

That all changes today. Indie rap powerhouse Mello Music Group just revealed that they’re releasing Square One through a quick video that contains a clip of a new song (sounds awesome) and the news that Black Milk and Kev Brown, among others, provided production. As for when we’ll hear it, all we know is that it’s “coming soon,” and I hope that means before the end of the year.

You can watch the video below.

sbtrkt benji b Listen: SBTRKT Shares New Three Hour Mix Featuring Six Unreleased Songs

While I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t fall head over heels in love with SBTRKT’s new album, it absolutely had its strong moments like “Voices In My Head” and “Higher.” Yes, I may not personally be the biggest fan of Raury, who guests on “Higher,” but he suits the production perfectly, especially on the hook. Anyway, I’m getting away from my point—my feelings on Wonder Where We Land aside, I’m always down to listen to a new mix from the masked producer. Like this recent BBC Radio 1 takeover, which is a three-hour mix that features everyone from Flying Lotus to Dorian Concept and, yes, SBTRKT himself. Upping the ante, he decided to share six (!) previously unreleased songs from his catalog. Judging by how he’s done this before, namely on his Soundcloud, these may be previews of his next project or simply leftovers. We’ll see.

You can listen to the mix and view its track listing on BBC Radio 1.

tyler golf Watch Tyler, The Creators Documentary On The Making Of Wolf

tyler the creator hat Watch Tyler, The Creators Documentary On The Making Of Wolf

If you are a fan of Odd Future, chances are you’ve, at some point in your life, also been a fan of Jackass. On the surface they are quite different, but their rebel tactics and general aesthetic is pretty damn similar. Which is why it’s no surprise a recently leaked Tyler, The Creator documentary on his Wolf album reminds me so much of the early CKY videos. While this documentary DVD wasn’t supposed to hit the web, someone seems to have uploaded it for our viewing pleasure. If you’ve seen the CKY tapes, you are going to know exactly what I’m talking about. Taped in a fisheye on what looks like a crappy old camera, the footage is gritty and crass. Featuring mostly nonsensical clips, the crew hops around various locales making mischief, which is something we’ve come to enjoy from Golf Wang.

You can watch the documentary below and buy Wolf here.

I’m a sucker for a nicely flipped soul sample. I could go on for days how most rappers and producers use it as a crutch, but honestly at the end of the day the technique works. On “Cry Love,” Knytro—a Florida rapper currently taking over London—smoothly spits over an infectious beat that sees singer Fabienne interpolating The Sweet & Innocent & The Memphis Mustangs’ track of the same name. Above all else, the song does a nice job of transitioning from Knytro’s personal bars to the soulfulness of Fabienne’s vocals. “Cry Love” would’ve been right at home at the dawn of summer with its easy going vibes, but it is a nice send off before winter is in full effect.

mozaic vice Potholes Premiere: Watch MoZaics New Video For Vice Featuring MidaZ

mozaic vice Potholes Premiere: Watch MoZaics New Video For Vice Featuring MidaZ

We have all our vices, right? You know, those things that you struggle with getting over/rid of in your life but simply can’t? Most of the time, it’s something we’re willingly taking part in, whether it’s a shifty relationship or an overconsumption of alcohol. When it comes to her new video for “Vice,” it’s clear that MoZaic is referring to the former. At least, it becomes apparent when she sings the following on the earworm of a hook: “Your grip on me/ Tight/ I can’t let go/ No/ you are my vice/ I just thought that you should know.” Yeah, good luck not singing that one for the rest of the day—in your head or otherwise.

Also, I have to say I dig the late-night theme of the visuals, because it implies that the vice in question could be any number of things, from staying out too late (too often) to drinking way too much and anything in between. “Vice” itself stems from her latest release, Unexpected Turns, and boasts a sharp guest appearance from MidaZ, who we haven’t heard from in a minute.

You can watch the video below and buy MoZaic’s new EP on iTunes.

Listen: Anderson.Paaks Ta ku Produced Right There Will Make Your Day

I listen to an ungodly amount of music on a daily basis; some of it I love, some of it I hate and some of it just gets a “meh.” Anderson.Paak and Ta-ku‘s “Right There” is one of those times where I absolutely love a track. This is the type of relationship every artist and producer should have. From the vocals to the lyrics to the beat, everything flows together seamlessly.

Ta-ku’s production is stellar. Instead of remaining stagnant, the beat is continuously changing add little sparks of ideas and innovation without getting confusing. In a similar fashion, Anderson.Paak weaves between rapping and singing with relative ease. Each component of this track from the drums to the melody is forcing the song on a forward trajectory that never leaves time to get bored.

It’s moments like these that make listening to music all day worth it. Listen below and buy Paak’s new album, Venice, here.
