The Velvet Underground's John Cale has created a drone orchestra
Cale’s flying symphony is the first of its kind.

Former Velvet Underground lynchpin John Cale teamed with Australian speculative architect Liam Young to create a performance entitled LOOP>>60Hz: Transmissions from the Drone Orchestra. After two years searching for the right venue, the performance took place at The Barbican in London and featured flying drones as musical instruments.
The fleet of drones, each adorned with elaborate costumes, flew around the venue and and spread Cale’s voice, different audio tracks and their own motor sounds over the audience. According to Cale, the show represented ”a collaboration between airborne architecture and music.”

“It took a long time to find the right venue,” said Cale’s collaborator Liam Young. “Putting these technologies above people’s heads that are really violent; they spin at extraordinary speeds. These propellers are gonna take someone’s head off if you let them. It required someone with some vision and some bravery to let us attempt it. And it really is the first time that these things have been flown above the heads of an audience.”
The Creators Project prepared a short documentary that provides an insight into how the performance came together. You can stream the documentary below.

'Peep This' irresistible collaboration from Funkadelic and Soul Clap
Cross-generational funk for your soul.
Following a year of groundwork, Soul Clap flew Parliament/Funkadelic leader George Clinton to Miami’s Red Bull Studios in May of last year for a three day recording session. The session proved to be fruitful, with two tracks ('First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate' and 'In Da Kar') included on the upcoming Funkadelic album.
Sould Clap Records will simultaneously release two ‘EFUNK’ remixes of the collaborations along with ‘Peep This,’ a bonus cut from the recording session. ‘Peep This’ features P-Funk engineer G Koop on bass and is produced by Nick Monaco.
Speaking to Gilles Peterson, Soul Clap said of the collaborations, “we're so honoured to officially release these dancefloor funk jams to the world. Getting Clinton's blessing and musical participation has legitimized our EFUNK movement and opened a new chapter in the Soul Clap's sound.”

Killer Mike shares mixtape of forgotten freestyles, stream Sunday Morning Massacres
Killer Mike opens up the archives.
In 2008, Killer Mike put together a regular series of freestyles known as Sunday Morning Massacres. DJ Greg Street has compiled eighteen of the freestyles for the Sunday Morning Massacres mixtape, unveiled earlier today.
Killer Mike delivers his typically fiery bars over instrumentals originally popularised by the likes of The Game, Young Jeezy and Jay-Z, interspersed with a handful of skits.
Whilst the lyrical depth we have come to expect from the Run The Jewels rapper remains present, the mixtape highlights the progression Killer Mike has made in the six or so years since originally delivering his Sunday Morning Massacres.

James Blake hopes new album will feature Kanye West, could be out in "about five months"
Blake says he is “70 per cent done” with his third studio album.
James Blake has been hard at work on his third LP, revealing to the Miami New Times that the album should be out in “about five months.” Blake also confirmed that he has been working alongside Kanye West, and he hopes to have West feature on the album.
“I have a lot of respect for [Kanye], for what he has been releasing for years,” said Blake. “We haven't done a great deal of work in the same room yet, but we've done a few things, kind of helped each other with our own music. In terms of the actual collaboration for this record, it looks like we should be able to get something done. I know that there's a specific song I would like him to be on, and if he can do that by the time my record comes out, that would be fantastic.”
Discussing his approach to the album as a whole, Blake said, "I’m working hard and doing my best—I’m aware that people want to hear this record, so I’m not being complacent. I should hope that [the new album] will be a step on, as much as the second one was to the first. I guess I've taken a focus on the songwriting again, even more closely, and I'm dabbling in some different production techniques, things I've developed.
"A lot of things have changed in my life since the last record, and overall for the better, so I'm in a good place, I think. I'm in a good place to write in general, and I have been for quite a while."
