LA-based synth-pop duo Soft Metals (a.k.a. Ian Hicks and Patricia Hall) is continuing to tour off the back of its sophomore album Lenses from last year, with a series of European dates (and one in Mexico City) set for the spring. The '80s-indebted outfit has also announced a new remix LP which will see a vinyl release via Mecanica in March.

Modern piano composer and synth multitasker Nils Frahm released Spaces—a collection of live "field recordings," compiled from a variety of performances—late last year, and now the artist has shared an impressionist video for LP highlight "Says."

Last year, Brooklyn-based producer and UNO affiliate Arca released the standout &&&&&—a free mix of original material, continuing his line of disembodied, surreal hip-hop experiments—along with helming production for FKA twigs' EP2 (featuring one of our favorite tracks of 2013) and contributing to Kanye West's ubiquitous Yeezus LP. Now, the Venezuelan-born artist has announced a limited vinyl pressing of &&&&&, which is currently available for purchase.

London's Local Action label had a busy 2013, further establishing itself as a dependable name for grime, garage, and other UK-centric, bass-informed styles. Looking ahead, the imprint debuted a trove of unreleased cuts today in its "2014 Mix," showcasing imminent releases for the New Year.

Prior to the release of their collaborative Raï Dubs record for Boomarm Nation, Algeria-born producers El Mahdy Jr. (pictured above) and XJ have offered up the wonky "R4 Dub" tune. Deconstructing several classic examples of Algerian Raï music, the duo presents an aged archivalist sound in its new music, with haunted vocal samples and rough instrumentation filling out the bulk of the tracklist.

XLR8R's more diligent readers may remember the absolutely unGoogleable AnD name from last Friday's Press Play feature, in which we ran a full stream of the longstanding Manchester duo's new Kundalini EP for Speedy J's Electric Deluxe label. And though we admittedly haven't been actively covering the outfit's sizable discography of EPs and singles over the years, our attention was officially grabbed by the new release, as it pushes a gnarled and heavy style of techno that sounds entirely au courant. Thankfully, we now have a brand-new mix from producers Andrew Bowen and Dimitri Poumplidis that hit the internet just today.

Back in the summer of 1994, Mouse on Mars joined what was then the freshest indie-rock/electronic-pop crossover hub of the day by releasing its debut LP, Vulvaland, via London's Too Pure. At the time, the label was home to PJ Harvey, Stereolab, Moonshake, Seefeel, and a number of other acts working the margins and intersections of shoegaze, German space rock, and dance.

"Mecca," the title track off French artist Lucien's forthcoming EP for his own Ventura label, features a somewhat unconventional cross section of musical styles. Blending distinctly Middle Eastern elements within his rolling house number, the producer's tune proves to be quite the unique undertaking, one that comes additionally bolstered by tasteful percussion.

Though most of us are still in the thick of wintertime, 2014's sunnier seasons aren't too far off. So while we wait for brighter days to arrive, we thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to start preparing now by giving away a couple pairs of limited-edition sunglasses from Portland eyewear brand Shwood's recent collaboration with fellow Oregon-based outfitters Pendleton.

Polish producer Umba (a.k.a. Artur Marcinkowksi) has taken influence from "old-school Roland drum machines, Moog synths, and bass/house hybrids" for his debut LP, Dim (due out on January 21 via B.YRSLF). Ahead of that record's release, Umba sent over synthy album cut "Neon," which opens with a heavy bassline bashing through an ambient passage before the artist unleashes a salvo of drums and low-end.
