      In 2012, backing band the Ruffcats released their debut album which the Melting Pot crew found perfect for sample mining. Melting Pot passed the raw material on to their favorite producers, raked in the gems and compiled these reworks to be released as Beats and Raps inspired by the Ruffcats.       J Rocc has many affiliations: Beat  Junkies, Jaylib, etc but can you imagine what it would sound like if he were perhaps a member of Sweetback, Sade’s crew and production camp. If he was, would he suggest pumpin’ out trippy, bass jams like this to her? That would be mad interesting, a different direction from her 30 year old signature sound. We’ll just have to wonder

      I read Leroi Jones aka Amiri Baraka’s 51 year old tome,  Blues People, in my African American music class and the history and socio-economics discussed have colored much of my musical ideology. His passing is poignant for many, including Cali beatmaker Ras G who happened to have an Amiri Barakaa album on the turntable when he heard he passed. Imamu`s Time is what he created in his honor.
