This past weekend, Tokyo's Chiba Marine Stadium was packed to the brim as Summer Sonic Festival took over. While the artists included many rock icons like Muse, Metallica, Fall Out Boy, and Linkin Park, some DJs were there to rock the crowd. One of those artists was Mr. Dim Mak himself, Steve Aoki.

At one point in Steve Aoki’s performance, Linkin Park’s frontmen Mike Shindoa & Chester Bennington appeared on the stage. Together, the three performed their brand new collaboration ‘A Light That Never Comes‘ for the very first time. The crowd had a massive, positive reaction to the song, and the group topped it off with one of Steve Aoki’s signature group photos at the front of the stage.

Mike Shindoa took to twitter after the performance to let everyone know that the single will not be sold via iTunes, physical copies, or any on-air play. The track will be featured in Linkin Park’s upcoming Facebook game, Recharge.

Aoki took to instagram to post plenty of photos from when the three performed the brand new track. Check out the new track feautred in the video above.

Syndey Blu

Sydney Blu is one of the most prominent female DJs in the dance music scene right now. Since her beginnings in Toronto, working on music while studying in college, she has since become one of the most in-demand artists in the music scene today. Traveling the world to see her undying fans, Sydney somehow finds time to make incredible works of music as well. Most recently, she released a game-changing mix compilation, Change The Game. In it, she showcased her skills as a DJ, mixing in tracks from deep house, techno, progressive, and electro, taking listeners on a journey unlike any other. She has also teamed up with Black Hole Recordings to release a series of short documentaries entitled, Being Sydney Blu. We were lucky enough to catch up with her and talk to Sydney about her recent move to Los Angeles, the documentary series, life, music and so much more. This Saturday, Sydney will be headlining Los Angeles premiere nightclub, Exchange LA, for their weekly Insomniac Presents Inception event. Check out our one-on-one with Sydney Blu, and make sure you get tickets to see her this weekend.

Q: How has 2013 been going for you?
This year has been really crazy because I moved to LA at the very beginning of it all. I started working on my compilation album as well. Then there was the documentary series that I am doing and that launched in February as well, so it was just crazy doing all these things at once. Can’t forget WMC as well, where we had the Blu Party. It has just been non-stop but I love it.
Q: You moved to LA from Miami correct?
Actually, I moved from Denver. I lived in Denver for 5 months. It was just a little slow-paced for me. But it was a nice little break. I was always planning on coming to LA though.
Q: How is LA different from the other places you have lived?
The reason why I love it for me, is that it is just amazing for me career. Everybody here that I am friends with is in the music industry in some capacity. That is really good for your career. It not just because you are friends with people because they are in the music industry, but you have so much in common with these people because they work in entertainment like you. Being in a city with all these people is really motivating because I think everyone feeds off one-another. Not to mention it is sunny, and beautiful, and fast-paced which I love.
Q: How did you handle moving right around the time that all your projects were starting to get pushed out?
It has been challenging because it can get a little overwhelming at times, but I feel very accomplished. I worked very hard on this and it’s all coming together. I have been getting great feedback on the radio show, and the compilation, and the documentary series. It just makes it feel worth it all.
Q: You have been on the road for a while now doing a tour in correlation with your new mix compilation. How was that been going?
It has been amazing, but it started out really crazy. When I started my first date on the road, I brought a giant suitcase with a month full of my stuff. The second day of the tour, I lost my phone or it was stolen at this huge rave I was playing in New York. I was having problems with my USB sticks as well. So much has happened since I left.

Q: With those little mishaps, did the tour get better as you went along?
Absolutely. So much better. I went home to Canada and was able to see all my friends in Toronto. It was beautiful there this time of year so I don’t mind basing myself out of there.
Q: What has been one of the best spots on the tour for you?
Toronto. It was just insane. I played PRIDE in Toronto in the street for 2000 during the day. Then I went and played at Footwork Nightclub where I got to play a proper underground set. The night in New York I lost my phone was also one of the best nights as well. I was playing in Williamsburg for a festival in a warehouse for 2000 people. That was one of the highlights.
Q: So what brought about this underground sound/style in you?
I am just over the whole “EDM” thing. I think I released some really good, quality progressive house on Black Hole [Recordings], but I am kind of ready to evolve to a more house sound. It is kind of a metaphor with the new mix compilation title, Change The Game, because I want to change into a more soulful sound.
Q: Speaking of Change The Game, this mix compilation featured many different styles and sounds in it. How did you go about choosing which songs and styles you wanted to use?
Everybody has commented on it, and I want people to know that I truly worked hard on this album, because I wanted to show my versatility as a DJ. Honestly, it could have gone terrible or it could have gone great. Luckily, it has been going great for me. People can think that you have ADD when you mix so many different genres together. I decided at the beginning of the album, that I didn’t want to do just mainstream music. I physically couldn’t. So I decided to make it interesting, starting out very deep, then moving into housey & techy, before moving into big room electro. I wanted to make sure that it really flowed and that it was a real journey.
Q: You also have a documentary series airing right now on YouTube with a new episode every month. How did this idea come about?
I have a record deal with Black Hole, that has a section for music videos. There are like 3 guarantee music videos in my contract. But music videos are a lot of money. They can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000. I was talking to the people I was working, and I suggested instead of making cheesy music videos, let us do something out of the box. I have always been fascinated by documentaries. Madonna’s latest one, I Want To Tell You A Secret, I watched over and over and over. Even Beyonce’s one, it was just so real and interesting. I love it when artists show who they really are and when they don’t put on an act. Also, with some many DJs putting out documentaries where they make life look so glamorous, I wanted to show the real side of it. First of all, not everyone is making a life earning $100,000 a show. There are a lot of people who are out there, busting their ass, trying to make a living doing this. I feel like I am on a level of success, but I work really hard to get where I am and to always be on the rise. I wanted people to see that.
The concept of the documentary series too is that each episode is focused on a different city. And while in that city, we turn the episode into almost a travel show, talking about the history of the city and the culture there. For instance, when we went to Chicago, we talked about the history of Chicago style house music and where it fits in today’s style.

Q: Of all the episode’s which one if your favorite?
I love all the episodes so far. I think the Toronto one is my favorite. We went to Toronto where we did the filming of the PRIDE show and the Footwork show. We interviewed all my friends for longer than 10 years. I think that is one of the best episodes because that is going to show some insight into who I really am.
Q: What other cities do you want to do?
I definitely want to do Washington, D.C. I also have a show coming up in Ottawa that I would like to do as well because that is the capital of Canada, and then I get to do the capital of my other home, in Washington, D.C.
Q: Living in Toronto, how did you get involved in DJ and producing?
I went to college in Ottawa. While studying there, I saw my first underground DJ at this after hours show and I was just like, “Oh my god…”
Q: Do you remember who it was?
I don’t remember who the first one was, but I remember the second or third one was with Roger Sanchez. The man is a legend and has always been one of my favorite DJs. Erick Morillo as well. I saw all these DJs at this one after hours club called The Comet. That is where I was inspired and decided I wanted to become a DJ/producer myself.
Q: What was your parents reaction when you told them this is what you wanted to do?
I was really surprised when I told me mother since she has been so old-fashion most of her life, but they were so supportive. They have really backed me as well. That was the one thing that they never really argued with me about. Maybe it was because I was successful, but it felt really good.
Q: If you weren’t a DJ, what would you have become?
If I wasn’t a DJ, like right now at this moment if I decided to quit, I would probably stay in music and be a manager or an agent. But if I wasn’t in music at all, I would probably do something in travel. When I was in college I was studying travel and touring. So there were careers in travel agency, flight attendant, working for airlines and hotels and resorts.
Q: Before you got into the whole dance music scene, who were some of your favorite artists growing up?
Growing up? Let me see. Michael Jackson. I love Madonna. She has always been my favorite artists in the world. I loved The Dave Matthews Band when I was in college; like I was obsessed with Dave Matthews. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and the whole grunge scene of the 90s. The Cure. Tori Amos. Cindy Lopper. Prince.
Q: Was there one moment in your career that really stuck out to you the most?
Yeah, I actually performed at the Roger Center, which is the Skydome in Toronto. I opened for Deadmau5 in either 2011 or 2012, I can’t really remember. 35,000 people were in attendance there. It was the biggest crowd I ever played for. Also my parents and family were there as well. So that is always special.
Q: What do you have going on the rest of the year?
I will be continuing this tour, which will end around September. Then I will be doing a college tour in October. I am going to do Europe around that time too. After all that, I am going to start working on my artist album which will be coming out in 2014.
Q: What do you want to say to your fans?
I just hope everyone continues to watch the documentary series. I am working really hard on it, to kind of do something new and different out of the box. Come to one of my shows. I love seeing all of you in the crowds. Also, buy some of my music. I can’t continue doing this, if you don’t buy my music. And also make sure you check out my radio show, Blu Cast.
