A Tribe Called Red, George Leach and Nathan Cunningham big winners at Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards

Electronic DJs A Tribe Called Red, rocker George Leach and country star Nathan Cunningham were the big winners at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards this weekend.

Ottawa’s A Tribe Called Red, made up of DJs Shub, Bear Witness and Deejay NDN took home the most awards at the ceremony, held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on Sunday, winning best producer/engineer, best pop CD, best group or duo and best album cover for their Polaris shortlisted album, Nation II Nation.



B.C. musician George Leach took home three awards for his album, Surrender, winning best rock CD and Aboriginal songwriter of the year, as well as single of the year for “Carry Me.”



Cunningham won both best country CD Aboriginal male entertainer of the year for his album Road Renditions. Female entertainer of the year also went to a country singer, with Manitoba’s Ali Fontaine taking home the award.
