‘literate, louche alt-rock’ – Guardian
'a dark heart plucked straight from the Nick Cave School of Indecency.' – NME
‘these literate scally-wags neatly reproduce the Pixies’ dark eroticism, Morrissey’s erudite cheek and Nick Cave’s unhinged fantasies, conjuring the odd dancefloor-bound, indie-rock banger. Musically, more or less, this offering has ‘Humbug mk II etched all over it.’ – The Fly
Stranger Records signing Filthy Boy will be joining King Krule on his forthcoming October tour. Filthy Boy revel in storytelling and the construction of fantasy. The debut album 'Smile That Won't Go Down' – recorded in less than a week in Edywn Collins' West Heath Studio – was released in April to critical acclaim. Laced with romance and intrigue, stories don't finish as expected, there's drama, suggestion and blurred boundaries between innocence and murky darkness.Theirs is a quintessentially British brand of songwriting, dark humoured, flamboyant and cocksure, but also withdrawn, understated, even vulnerable. New single 'That Life', although lyrically colourful, offers a sedate retrospective of a lifestyle spurned, waltzing to a beautifully constructed medley (with added innocent whistle) with conviction. It is released on 16th September. Watch the accompanying video, shot by Paraic and Michael, here: You can buy their Debut album featuring ‘That Life’ here, and stream it here.
