Sure, you might have had work today, which, after a long break, can be a struggle. But, since tomorrow is the drunkest day of the year and Tyga has released a new single, I’d say today is still a Good Day. Although this record can be found on the previously-released mixtape Well Done 4, Good Day has now been selected … Click the link for the stream. |

Little White Earbuds: LWE Podcast 187: Maria Nannou @ MNS |
Posted: 29 Dec 2013 10:01 PM PST
After evaluating nearly 40 mixes, LWE’s judging panel has made its selections. Our congratulations go out to Maria Nannou, the winner of our sixth annual podcast mix competition. Her entry channels the darker energies in techno to create a standout mix, one that makes perfect sense of Dopplereffekt, Omar-S, Ike Yard, and Autechre. Nannou shared this about herself: “I left my tropical Greek paradise 10 years ago to move to a gloomy country, also known as the UK. There I found myself in another kind of paradise… a music one! I’ve done lots of blogging, music business studies, and also found myself working as a music journalist for a while. I’m not a self-proclaimed DJ or curator. I simply enjoy mixing and recently I dipped my toe into making music as well. My love for music is gigantic, and that would be an understatement.” In second place we have Ross Holland of New York City; and in third place we have Royer of Copenhagen. Thanks to all of those who entered. And now, please enjoy Maria’s excellent mix. |
Bonafide Magazine @ MSN: Bonafide writers top 10 records of 2013 |
Posted: 29 Dec 2013 04:35 PM PST
Whereas most publications choose to issue a unanimous 'best of' list, collating numerous writers' selections into one broad statement, we at Bonafide have decided to bend the tradition slightly and instead give a platform for some of our writers to broadcast their opinions on the year's best records in their own right. At any rate, as you can see from the albums (EPs and mixtapes, we should add) that made the final cut, the results are so varied and far-reaching, that the task of assembling everyone's picks into one big list would be night-on impossible, and wouldn't do justice to the great range of tastes that we so cherish amongst our writers. So without further ado, here are Bonafide contributors’ top 10 albums of the year. |

Ahead of the ninth instalment in the annual Worldwide Awards at Koko, we will be shedding light on the artists performing through a series of questions. Here we have for you, Swindle.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.? I'm Swindle, from London. I love keyboards, music and sharing them with the world. All I want to spend my time doing is to share my music with people. Earlier this year I released my first album: Long Live The Jazz on deep Medi. How would you describe your music? My music is a reflection of my life and all the different styles that have passed my ears over the years. Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production? Quincy Jones because his music explores different textures, I love the way he explores brass and layered vocals and fused the best of current times and his own influences to create something completely unique. If you could give a musical award of the year, what would it be and for whom? James Brown for best interview – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tfNhL_R_rI Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to? Toronto had a big year, musically. Artists from Canada's largest city produced top quality albums in almost every genre, ranging from the glossy, genre-blending hip-hop of Drake's Nothing Was the Same to the gritty garage punk of Teenanger's Singles Don't $ell. Here are CBC Toronto's Top 10 Torontonian releases of the year.

BamaLoveSoul: DJ Evil Dee – All James Brown 45s Mix (Download) |
Posted: 24 Dec 2013 07:28 PM PST
I still remember waking up Christmas Day 7 years ago after donning a James Brown t shirt only to be told he passed away earlier that morning. Definitely surreal, but it cemented an association forever with James Brown and Dec 25. I’ve heard about those who pass and wish their death to be celebrated not mourned and I imagine James would be one of those people. Enjoy Evil Dee’s all 45 mix of the Godfather’s music & influence and celebrate his life’s work

Blue Sky Black Death or BSBD, The conjoined force of Seattle producers ‘Young God’ and ‘Kingston’ have had a very busy year. With a solid remix of ‘Run The Jewels‘ track ’36″ Chain’ which was only available on the UK release via ‘Big Dada’ to the release of their new album ‘Glaciers‘ and continuing the mix tape appearances from the perfect match up with rappers like ‘Nacho Picasso‘ and ‘Key Nyata‘, thats not all that they have in store! Last week via their ‘facebook‘ they kindly stated to be dropping the second instalment from the Euphoric Tapes series, an instrumentals version of songs from the duo that have had the pleasure of being rapped on. With ‘Euphoric I‘ still in our day to day playlist Euphoric II has not come soon enough.
Aptly named ‘Euphoric II‘ BSBD delivered the second instrumental release via Soundcloud just in time to listen to on repeat whilst drinking mulled wine or spiced rum and indulging in chocolate cake along with a surprise set of track’s names Third Party Instrumental’s uploaded to their soundcloud earlier on in the week. |

ThatFix: “Jay Prince – Stay On My Cool” plus 1 more |
Posted: 24 Dec 2013 06:16 PM PST
I’ve had this dope song on repeat ever since I came across it. Ofcourse I’m talking about this super chill hip hop track called “Stay On My Cool” featuring a jazzy vibe by the up-and-coming London, UK-based rapper Jay Prince. The single is taken from Jay’s most recent project “Mellow Vation” of which is already available for free download via his official Bandcamp page. Make sure to follow Jay Prince on Twitter, Soundcloud and Facebook for future updates regarding his music (of which we’ll cover anyway), stream and download one of my favorites off his project right after the jump.
