Junior Boys' new album, Big Black Coat, came out last week. Marking five years since their last studio album, fans are pretty excited — CBC Music included. The Boys are busy with press and gigs and promotion, so instead of inviting them into our studio, we headed down the road to Hamilton to record them in their rehearsal space.
Junior Boys filled the basement of the historic Sonic Unyon Records building with audio gear, instruments, midi-controlled lights and other miscellaneous gems. They'd been rehearsing in the basement, preparing to tour Big Black Coat. Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus were joined on drums by Dale Butterfield and a stellar team of audio and lighting pros.
The band played four songs from the new album and mixed in a couple of their classic tracks. Then Jessy Lanza and her drummer, Tori Tizzard, graced the basement for a killer performance of Lanza's new single, "It Means I Love You." Watch for her song next week and check out the new material from Junior Boys here:
