Yeah, the term “turnt up” isn’t my favorite thing to say, and it looks like Talib Kweli understands that sentiment. With a quick introduction to the song, Kweli describes the Prisoners of Conscious cut as one of his favorites to perform live. Thanks to Off the Record, Talib jumped in the studio to run through the song “Turnt Up” with a live band. And, as expected, it’s all sorts of funky.

    Watch the video above.

Never before has Ibn Inglor made the opening moments of a song quite so personal. The young Chicago artist recently liberated “Damaged”, the newest (and best yet) single from his forthcoming New Wave 2 project. The omnipresent depression of familial death injects a particularly strong sense of anger and urgency – an effect embodied by chorus-backing guitar riffs, industrial drum clashes and an impassioned delivery of lyrics.

Nick Acquroff – lead vocalist from the Australian collective Sons et al. – provides a strangely soothing, ritualistic twist to a story otherwise told by the brashness of Ibn and his backing beat. A similar calm is implanted during the song’s closing moments, as the sound of lapping oceanic waves gradually rises. Stream “Damaged” below.

isaiah14 Isaiah Rashad Heavenly Father [Video]

Isaiah Rashad – TDE’s newest male signee – has unveiled visuals to accompany “Heavenly Father”, a standout track from his Cilvia Demo EP that graced the internets on Jan. 28. As we approach the two-month mark since the project’s release, Cilvia still lives up to the early praise.

The Eric Swiz-directed visuals combine wintery imagery with Rashad’s life pondering rhymes, delivered over a relaxed jazz beat. Watch the long-winding journey captured by “Heavenly Father” below.

Earlier this year, DOOM announced a partnership with Clarks Originals to release his own DOOM Wallabee shoe. It turns out that isn’t the extent of the partnership, as the masked musician has now released a remix of one of his track “Bookhead” to help promote the release. What makes this special, though, is that he sampled noises from the shoe factory in which the shoe is being created.

Timing is everything. As fans vote for the final inclusion of the 2014 XXL Freshmen class, Vince Staples (undoubtedly a favorite to appear on the magazine’s cover) unleashes a new, ten-track mixtape titled Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2. Staples – who has terrorized tracks beside the likes of Mac Miller’s producing alter ego Larry Fisherman, Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Fatts and Ab-Soul – shines bright amongst an all star supporting cast (Jhene Aiko; James Fauntleroy) over crisp, vintage production (No I.D.; Scoop DeVille, Childish Major, Evidence & DJ Babu).

Vol. 2 serves as the sequel to Staples’ 2011-released project, Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1. His last full-length mixtapethe Stolen Youth EP, released last summer.

After a few great projects –  such as Strange Rhythm (produced by Last Word) and The Last Great (produced by the Sundance Kid) - MaLLy has returned with a new track from his forthcoming project, The Colors of Black. Entirely produced once again by Last Word, MaLLy enlists help from some fellow Minnesota natives: notably, Slug of Atmosphere and Rapper Hooks.

Check out the single above and be sure to cop The Colors of Black when it drops on April 8 (iTunes preorder available now). [via]

prefuse 73 the only scarf Prefuse 73 & Machinedrum The Only Scarf

Prefuse 73 continues his string of collaborations with his label offshoot Yellow Year Records this week, with a brand new tune with Machinedrum. We have been hearing about this collaboration for over a year now, but it’s nice to finally see what the two have cooked up in the studio. And, as expected, the tune is a lovely mix of high-octane percussion and glitchy melodies. Not too far off from either of these artist’s repertoires.
    Stream “The Only Scarf” below.
