BADBADNOTGOOD On World Cafe Posted: 23 Aug 2016 03:04 PM PDT The Toronto improvisational band BADBADNOTGOOD recently released its fourth album, IV. The instrumental group includes Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, Leland Whitty on saxophone and Alexander Sowinski on drums. The four, most of whom met at Humber College, have become known for their jazz-inflected covers of hip-hop songs and, notably, for their collaborations with Tyler, the Creator. Recently, the band also worked with Ghostface Killah on the albumSour Stones; they subsequently toured together. With a quick introduction to the song, Kweli describes the Prisoners of Conscious cut as one of his favorites to perform live. Thanks to Off the Record, Talib jumped in the studio to run through the song “Turnt Up” with a live band. And, as expected, it’s all sorts of funky. Watch the video above.

"Sustain" and "Can't Leave The Night" dropped recently via Innovative Leisure. Purchase the tracks on iTunes. The Toronto trio consisting of Chester Hansen, Alex Sowinski and Matt Tavares comment their recent release … This album is actually entirely instrumental and completely surprise free – unless people are surprised by hot jams. The only collaborators on the album are with some very talented friends and we're hoping the music will speak for itself. Listen: BadBadNotGood – CS60 Posted: 17 Jan 2014 04:14 AM PST   Having garnered a following for their jazzed-up Odd Future sessions, hip-hop fusion band BadBadNotGood are taking the step into solo territory with their forthcoming full-length III, on the LA-based label Innovative Leisure. Cut from the same instrumental cloth as The Heliocentrics and Menahan Street Band, CS60 is the first taste of what is to come from III, and if this preview is anything to go by, we can expect the album to showcase a mature progression since their salad days as a cover band.
