Thug readies his third release of the year.

Young Thug has been previewing his upcoming self-titled (so to speak) project “Jeffery” on Instagram and has now announced it will drop on August 16. The tape follows up two 2016 projects: I’m Up and Slime Season 3.

There’s still no word on when I Came From Nothing 4 and his debut album Hy!£UN35 (seriously, we’re not counting Barter 6 even though it’s a triumph) will be released, but if “Jeffery” is like what we’ve heard so far this year, it should be a great holdover.

Back in June, Thug debuted ‘Turn Up’ with a video co-starring his fiancée Jerrika Karlae.

Maybe restraint isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Hudson Mohawke's titanic "Ryderz"—smothered in thumping 808s and horn wailing and synth giggles, like so much Donkey Sauce on a plate at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar—but I hope you'll hear me out for a second. Building on a sample of D.J. Rogers' tender 1973 soul cut "Watch Out for the Riders", Mohawke spends the song's first minute doing something you might not expect from one of maximalism's crown princes: he lets it breathe, leaves a little space for textured vinyl bits that spit and hiss like fat coming off a thick slab of bacon, lays down a foundation.

When he's stampeding over said sample with every whizbang in his toolbox, that core remains, its melody bearing all of the weight. The titular lyric starts to sound like a warning. And while it's easy to get lost in the maelstrom Mohawke stirs up by the end, it's important not to lose sight of what it took to get there: the taste to dig up Rogers' obscure original; the patience required to build that base; the wizardry behind that joyous cluster-bomb of extras. The great ones make it look easy.

Watch: Bose presents Scene Unseen #1 Dancehall in Japan

In the first film of a trilogy exploring music scenes around the world, Bose presents Scene Unseen, investigating the growing success of dancehall and reggae in Japan.
Following Yokohama’s soundsystem kings Mighty Crown, one of the scene’s most well known dancers Batty Bom Bom and the brilliantly named The Illmatic Gyalz, the film illustrates how dancehall’s music and cultural norms has become a fundamental part of their daily life. Despite being on the other side of the world, the subjects demonstrate that the scene is just as vibrant and energetic as in its home country.

Late last month, Tink shared a photo of herself with Timbaland [below], writing that “Timbaland gave me the word last night. We ready.” Timbo has taken it one further, tweeting that “my next big project is this new artist [Tink].” Obviously, this would be a huge opportunity for the Chicago rapper-singer; she’s also been in the studio with Kelela and DJ Dahi.
FACT spoke with Tink late last year and shared the highlights from her growing catalog. Her latest mixtape, Winter’s Diary 2, might be her best ever.

A collaboration between designer/developer Jono Brandel and Japanese musical outfit Lullatone, Patatap is a "portable animation and sound kit" which turns one's browser and keyboard into a musical/visual playback device. It's also a whole lot of fun to play with.

News recently broke out about brothers Pusha T and No Malice forming together once again as the group The Clipse to release a Neptunes-produced album this year around the time the London-based producer D.W planned to drop his EP Klipse. Coincidence aside, Dean really came through a jazz influence with his latest — a neat collection of  five The Clipse-inspired reworks of  popular tunes from the VA duo that we’ve known for a few years now.
You can stream D.W’s Klipse EP and watch a video for the song “(whamp whamp)” below.
