Simple Minds: Maybe we shouldnt have cashed in
Simple Minds release their first album in five years in November - its their 16th to date, meaning that theyve now amassed the same amount of full length records as AC/DC. Thats probably where the comparisons end, however, as the taster track Honest Town suggests Big Music will be full of sinister electronics and very little by way of school boy shorts and rollicking riffs. People think its all anthems and big gestures, and Id love to redress that side of it, Charlie Burchill told the Guardian of Simple Minds comeback in 2012. Theres a lot of serious, dark music.
Made with a wide selection of collaborators including co-writer Iain Cook (of fellow Glaswegians Chvrches) and producers Steve Osborne, Andy Wright and Steve Hillage - who worked on 1981s Sons And Fascination / Sister Feelings Call their new album follows 2005s Black & White 050505 and 2009s Graffiti Soul, not to mention the X5 boxed set and subsequent 5X5 Live album and tour.
