Last year, DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES went to #1 on the iTunes album chart in over 33 countries. This year, (RED) has teamed up with some of the biggest artists on the planet to continue to help fight the war against AIDS and create an AIDS-free generation with DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES Vol. 2.

The album will feature new and exclusive tracks from some of the biggest artists in the world. Artists music featured on the album include Avicii, Baauer, Benny Benassi, Bingo Players, Calvin Harris, Dada Life, deadmau5, Major Lazer, Martin Solveig, RL Grime, Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, Tommy Trash and more, along with remixes of Katy Perry, Far East Movement, Empire of the Sun and Robin Thicke. All proceeds from the album will go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES Vol. 2 was produced in partnership with Capitol Music Group's Priority Records and Recreation Worldwide. The album will be available on November 25th with pre-orders available now.
DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES2 is about celebrating how far we've come in the fight against AIDS while also uniting the world around this incredible opportunity we have to deliver an AIDS Free Generation within the near future. We are honoured and delighted that the Tommy Trash remix of 'Celebrate' has been chosen for this album. – Empire of the Sun
Once again, (RED) has teamed up with Stereosonic Festival Sydney to help provide a live-stream of all the action. Starting November 30th, fans can watch incredible performances from David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Sebastian Ingrosso, Above & Beyond, Calvin Harris, Krewella, Afrojack and many more! Continuing the celebrations, (RED) will also host a series of DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES2 parties in major cities across the globe: Singapore, Mexico City, Johannesburg, London, New York and Los Angeles.
The announcement comes as (RED) and its partners mark an important milestone in the fight against AIDS, having generated more than $215 million for the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. The war against AIDS faces a critical battle: to deliver the first AIDS Free Generation since HIV was diagnosed 32 years ago. In sub-Saharan Africa, it costs only 40 cents a day for two lifesaving pills that can prevent HIV positive mothers from transmitting the virus to their unborn children. Today, 700 babies are born with the virus. It's possible that number can soon be near zero. Ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV is a component of the UN Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015.

paul-oakenfold-interview-head
When you think of the forefathers of dance music, one notable name still as relevant as he was at the beginning is Paul Oakenfold. The son of a musician, music flowed through his blood. When he started DJing in the late 70s, playing the funky house and disco music, Paul Oakenfold instantly knew he was home. Over the years, Paul Oakenfold has become one of the pioneers in the dance music scene with his incredible production, and incredible techniques. His Perfecto Records helped give birth to melodic trance and progressive house, and it still one of the biggest labels in the world today. Over the years, Paul Oakenfold has recorded 30 mix compilations, 36 Essential Mixes including the very first one ever; he has scored soundtracks for a number of movies including long list of Hollywood blockbusters – including The Bourne Identity, Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2, Swordfish and Collateral; has worked with some of the biggest names in the music scene including Madonna, U2, The Happy Mondays; has remixed everyone from Justin Timberlake, Rolling Stone, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and sees no stopping in sight. Right now, Paul Oakenfold is bring his signature Full on Fluoro sound across the US for the very first time with his Trance Mission Tour. In 2014, Paul will release a Trance Mission album, as well as a brand new studio album, Pop Killer. Mixjunkies were able to talk to legend about the brand new tour, the new albums, and his old friend Cher.
Q: How is 2013 treating you so far?
Good! A lot of work in many different areas. What I mean by that is touring, production, recording and seeing the world.
Q: You know that doesn't sound too terrible. So I wanted to jump into this Trance Mission tour that you are undertaking. What was the inspiration behind it?
The whole idea of the tour is to primarily is to strip it down. None of the big production. Just myself, the music and the crowd and sharing new tracks, familiar songs, in a genre that is currently underground and could become more popular in the next year.
Q: When you are talking about the underground genre, you are referring to your Full On Fluoro sound correct?
Yes.
Q: You have been doing a lot of that in Europe and this is your first time bringing it to the US correct?
Absolutely. It is not so much the darker underground side, but more the uplifting melodic side.
Q: How did you decide that you wanted to bring this show to the US in the first place, because some people have referred to it as a sort of comeback to a true trance sound for you?
(Laughs) Who is say that? No, of course not. It is just sharing great moments of music that I have grown up with and redo, or rather re-cover for a better use of the word. I have never covered a song before so this is new ground to me. I want to bring some of these classics up-to-date and I want to share those with a new generation that doesn't know them. In terms of DJing, I will be playing a lot of modern underground trance that not a lot of people in the mainstream has necessarily heard before.
Q: With the tour, you have already kicked off the tour at Ruby Skye. How did that go?
It was a great show. Definitely a fantastic way to kick off this tour.
Q: The Trance Mission Tour will be bringing you all across North America throughout November. Any certain spots you are looking forward to playing?
The tour will actually go through March, traveling across the entire planet. There are some places that I look forward to going back to, and some new places that I haven't necessarily been to before. We are traveling over to the obvious destinations like the big cities, but then we are also traveling to cities like Charlotte and Anchorage, which is small, interesting gigs.
Q: You have played a show at the Southern most tip of South America before, now you are traveling up to Alaska. Have you ever played a gig up there before?
Yes, I have. It was 10 years ago and it was in a barn for 300 people. It was quite the experience.
Q: To accompany the tour, you are also putting together a Trance Mission album where you are taking 10 tracks, and not necessarily redoing them, but more updating them would you say?
No, no. That is not the way that I would put it. I am covering the tracks. So you know how Michael Buble would cover a Frank Sinatra song, I am, for the first time in my life, cover 10 classic songs. These are classics that I play. I am going to do a cover of Simple Minds 'Open Your Eyes'. People are going to say, "What does that have to do with trance?" Once you hear, you will understand it. These are tracks that I want to share with a newer generation, and that I am going to bring in line with modern production. I am not going to sample anything. I am not going to remix anything. These are going to be straight covers of tracks and bring part of the production, and I am going to bring some of the lyrics, so I am going to make songs out of them. It is a bit difficult, but it is also a bit exciting.
Q: That is really interesting because no one has ever really tried to do that before. You are basically taking a subject no one has covered in the dance music scene and stepping into new territory.
Exactly. So next year, that album will come out. My new artist album will be coming as well after that one. It is more than my last two artist albums. What I mean by that is powerful songs, great singers, focusing on the next generation of singers. This won't be like my last to artist albums where is featured just big names. What has changed is that dance music has become really commercial now, that you hear it on the radio. So this album will be perceived more as a commercial album, but really, it is just the same as the last two.
Q: With you being such a fissure in the music scene and having been around for the better part of 20 years, how did you go about choosing which 10 tracks you wanted to cover for you Trance Mission album?
With great difficulty. We started with 50, and we narrowed it down to 10 – 12. We are still tweaking the list a bit. Being with Perfecto and the boys there, we are all putting our minds into this decision.
Q: You are also releasing a brand new artist album next year. What can you tell us about that?
Pop Killer is more focused on the vocalists and the all-around musicality. It is the somewhat the same as the last two records in that it features collaborations with people from different genres. What I like is that it features cutting-edge rhythms. What has changed is the DJ environment, in that the music that you record will be more mainstream. We have lived in the realm where you can sell a million records in America, and have a Top 10 record, but it still wouldn't be seen as mainstream. But now, you have colleagues of mine like David Guetta and Calvin Harris, consistently making these top hits. Now, with that being said, I do not know how people will receive this new album. It is no different from the last two albums that I have produced, but it is that the times have changed.
Q: With the new album, I see here that you are working with artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley, B.o.B., OneRepublic. Which artist did you enjoy working with the most?
Well, I don't even know if any of those are going to make the record. To me, it is all about which song works best. I have been luckily enough to work with some fantastic singers, but to me, it is all about the song and what is the best fit.
Q: How many tracks do you expect to be featured on this album?
To be honest, I am not even sure. I have done over 60 tracks for the album so far. It is a labor of love. I go away. I come back. I go away again, which I mean I go on tour. Then I come back and lock myself up in the studio. We feel we have the tracks, now it is about getting the proper vocalists for each of those.
Q: Last year, you did this interview with a website called THUMP, where the person just made me feel embarrassed to be a journalist, and literally gave you the worst interview of your life. One question that he asked you was if you followed Cher on Twitter. So I am following that up by asking, do you follow Cher on Twitter now?
(Laughs)No, no I don't.
Q: Just last, but not least, what do you want to say to all your fans who have supported you throughout the years, and that are going to come and see you while you are on your Trance Mission Tour?
First off, I just want to say thank you. I am very lucky to have people like what I do. I don't ever expect anything in return from them. I know why I am here, and I am grateful for what I do. It is the people, first, and foremost that all this is about.
