New Zealand label, Cosmic Compositions pays tribute to my hometown’s truly unsung musical heavyweight Sonny Blunt aka Sun Ra. I’ve spent a lot of time drawing lines between Sun Ra and many influential artists and it’s great to hear modern interpretations of his tunes. Grab the 30 track compilation HERE

As we speak ATCQ are performing their last concerts together as a trio/quartet but the music they’ve made will remain as timeless as their influence. Portland producer Phoniks throws his hat in the ring with remix production filled with “Vibes and Stuff”

No, this isn’t new music from singer/model Cherokee but quite possibly your introduction, as it is mine, to Darianna and French house duo, Cherokee and producer FKJ. That’s a lot of handshakes to go around, eh? It’s also a great way to expand your library with some nice tunes if they all sound as good as this, right? Enjoy and be patient until this is released!

Monday Nov 25 Canadian label Do Right! Music will release Lauren Desberg’s Sideways on vinyl, CD and digital formats with this additional track to make it more interesting. I’m looking forward to enjoying Spring is Here and Come Running to Me on vinyl.

“Based just north of Los Angeles in Oxnard, CA, Jo Def brings a wealth of musical knowledge and positivity to the label. By delivering the spirit of footwork infused with soul and rnb, Jo Def’s unique sound-vibration cements Soulection’s dedication to bringing visibility to new artists and timeless music worldwide.”

“As producer of Crown City Rockers, The Mighty Underdogs and various side projects, Headnodic remains in the studio creating music that spans a variety of genres and styles yet stays rooted in the undeniable, classic era of hip hop. With that much creative output, sometimes beats can simply slip through the cracks, half finished and forgotten, locked away in a junk drawer never to see the light of day. And while Headnodic may have easily forgotten about these, the 26 intertwined beats of Junk Drawer Vol.1 (Download/Purchase) meld into a masterpiece more than worthy of release – it is downright dope.”

I came home and unwound by pulling out this album and lounging out to one of my favorite tunes, David Axelrod’s Holy Thursday. Coincidentally today is Thursday so I figured I’d share the track along with some of it’s sample history provided by Refined Hype. This track is the reason I dig!

Fatima brings it back, I personally felt some of her more recent productions had a darker, less organic edge to them, not saying thats not a good thing, but this, for me, brings her back to the soulful sister I had stumbled upon a few years ago… Produced by Flako the track has a slight latin flavoured groove running through it, plus it also smacks of a classic Soulful Bruk flow, not percussion wise but in its general essence…
