Property of Gotta Dance Dirty
This release is a first for both artist and label… a big day for both bi-coastal imprints with an appropriately big track to show for it. Based in New York and Los Angeles, brand new label collective The Big Hurt wasted no time pushing their first release, with social media pages being created only a few days ago. I would imagine it’s hard to keep the release contained, however, as the title track from Feral (formerly producing as In Transit) is a low-end bass weapon.
‘Haymaker’ relies on a mish-mash of stylings, from the oft-sourced ‘ethnic’ chimes to the pitch-shifts and pad-heavy grime stylings that have remained tried and true in the world of low end bass music. Listening to the EP preview is a further exploration of bass sounds, with clear experiments being done in song structure and hip-hop samplings. Though the fusion of the bass heavy stylings like grime and trap are nothing new, Feral is making clever little monsters. Intrigued to see what’s to come from bothy Feral and The Big Hurt.
