As part of the foundations aims to help musicians in crisis, it has been brought to our attention that a good friend of Steve Reid, the Jazz saxophonist Arthur Blythe needs our help. He recently underwent a serious kidney operation, which affected his ability to walk and swallow foods. He’s is also struggling with Parkinson’s disease. While he’s slowly regaining strength at a rehabilitation centre in California, he needs financial support to pay bills and to get the help of a good quality neurologist.

The Steve Reid Foundation is planning a fundraising event with all proceeds going to the Arthur Blythe fund. More details to come soon. Other fundraising efforts undertaken by the Steve Reid foundation include the Beat ‘n’ Trail bike ride from London to Croatia. Fundraising efforts like this will help towards rehabilitating musicians like Arthur.
Please click on the link here to read more about his condition and please donate what you can.
Every little bit helps.
Thank you.

Contact Field Orchestra is next up in our round up of the artists featuring on the 10th edition of Brownswood Bubblers. An associate of Kutmah, who previously contributed to our Worldwide Family series, here he tells us a bit about himself and his music.

Released on August the 19th, the new Bubblers will feature the typical eclectic mix that those of you familiar with Brownswood will be used to. Pre-order it from:

Bandcamp / iTunes / Bleep / Juno / Amazon / Boomkat

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.?
Damon Aaron. I’m from Altadena, CA– in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains.
I guess I’m probably most known as a singer/songwriter. CFO is the first instrumental project I’ve put out.

How would you describe your music?
My man Kutmah said it best, “like Tom Waits and Augustus Pablo smoking opium on the bayou”.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Transducers, thrift stores, old trains, broken toys and long hikes.

Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production?
Lee Scratch Perry, Bones Howe, RZA, Joe Boyd, Jim O’Rourke, Nick Gold, Harry Partch, Moses Asch.

What releases / gigs are out there or coming soon?
Contact Field Orchestra Vol. I is due out September 3 from Hit+Run.
CFO is excited to be playing July 31st with Hiatus Kaiyote at the Lift in Los Angeles.

Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to?
Part of the mixtape cassette we released with Hit+Run last year is available on the soundclouds:
https://soundcloud.com/contactfieldorchestra/contact-field-orchestra-vol-1

Where can folks go online to check out you and your music?

www.facebook.com/ContactFieldOrchestra
Twitter: @cforchestra
contactfieldorchestra.bandcamp.com

What are you going to do after this interview?
Turn on the field recorder and try to get a better recording of these wild parrots in the persimmon tree out back.
