The best Canadian albums of 2015 so far

Canadian music fans, are you ready to start another Polaris season? Well get ready, because the 2015 Polaris Music Prize long list is set to be announced in Halifax tomorrow.

The Polaris Music Prize is an annual juried award given to a Canadian album of the highest artistic integrity without regard to sales figures, genre or professional affiliation. It is determined by a group of journalists, broadcasters, bloggers and programmers from across Canada. This year the winning Canadian album will receive $50,000.

Following the long list announcement tomorrow, the ten album short list will be announced on July 16. This year's overall winner will be chosen by grand jury at the Polaris Prize Gala, happening on September 21. Both events take place at the Carlu in Toronto. Previous Polaris Prize winners include Tanya TagaqFeistPatrick Watson and Owen Pallett.

Of course, the start of every Polaris season turns our thoughts to our own lists of favourite Canadian releases. We polled our staff and you will find their picks in the gallery above. Keep in mind we're only talking about our favourite albums of 2015 right now (to qualify for Polaris, albums must have been released between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015). In case you're curious, we wrote about our favourite albums from 2014 at the end of last year.

What are your favourite Canadian albums of 2015 so far? Which albums do you think should make the long list? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @cbcradio3
