LISTEN

Ghost in the Machine

There are few aspects of music that haven’t been affected by the computer revolution, from the studio production of top 40 hits to opera house acoustics, to the ringtone on your mobile phone. Chances are good that a computer has played a major role in delivering music from the artists’ imagination to your ears.

But what if the computer was the artist? What if the music you loved was created by a machine?

This week on Inside the Music: Ghost in the Machine, a documentary that tells the story of computers, music, and the nature of creativity, as told by such luminaries as Laurie Anderson, David Cope, and digital pioneer Max Matthews. The program was produced, and is hosted by, Andy Sheppard.

Inside The Music airs Sunday at 3 p.m. (3:30 NT) and Wednesday at 7 p.m. (7:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2.
