Future Islands returned for their second performance on the Late Show With David Letterman last night to the obvious glee of Letterman, who said he’s wanted the band to return ever since last year's debut. He was not disappointed.
The Baltimore-based synth-pop band kicked off their new song, "The Chase," by dedicating it to the people of their hometown: "This song is gonna go out to the people of Baltimore. Let us not discount their voices."
Frontman Samuel T. Herring spent the next few minutes shimmying his way around the stage, delivering an affecting performance of the new track. Paul Shaffer and members of the CBS Orchestra also joined the band onstage.
Afterward, Letterman made sure to invite them back.
"You’re welcome here any time. I won’t be here, but you’re welcome here any time."
