100 Word Review: Tatvamasi- Parts Of The Entirety

Label: Cuneiform Records
Released: October 2013

Tatvamasi is a four-piece Polish outfit that is the brainchild of guitarist and composer Grzegorz Lesiak. Parts Of The Entirety is their debut release featuring compelling free-form music heavily influenced by underground rock and jazz, with the compositions heavy on riffs but also allowing for plenty of improvisation. The interplay between the guitar, sometimes choppy and sometimes distorted, and tenor sax is impressive, laid over polyrhythmic grooves. There’s much to like here, but for me stand out tunes include the epic An Eccentric Introvert In A Study Filled With Broken Mirrors, Rhubanabarb and Astropeus. Highly recommended for those into prog-jazz.
