Portuguese outfit Photonz has been playing Chicago footwork purveyors DJ Rashad's and DJ Spinn's (pictured above) Shangaan Shake collaboration with South African artists Tshetsha Boys in its DJ sets for a while, coming to the conclusion that the track would mix well at the wrong speed, especially when paired with the duo'

Prolific experimentalist Jeff Witscher (a.k.a. Rene Hell) has kept a relatively low profile since September's Vanilla Call Option LP—released via PAN, one of our favorite labels of 2013—but today Witscher has unleashed a brand-new mix online.

London producer Rain Dog (a.k.a. Samuel Evans) has spent the last few years carving a path of intimate and forward-thinking electronic music, eventually joining the Project: Mooncircle label's growing roster. Ahead of his forthcoming Two Words LP, Evans has shared the beat-driven "Regolith," an ambient-informed production which boasts a jangling piano amongst off-kilter claps and scattered vocal samples. The track is inclement and emotional, and finds its climax with a flurry of piano timbres and a vacantly drifting pad. Rain Dog's Two Words album will be released on January 14, but until then, its tracklist and artwork can be found after the jump.

As cities go, Barcelona is more beloved than most. With its sunny seaside location, stunning architecture, and reputation for late-night revelry, there is no shortage of reasons to fall in love with the place. For music lovers, Barcelona can be an especially rewarding destination, most notably in the late spring and early summer when Primavera Sound and Sónar—two of Europe's largest and most well-respected festivals—each lure massive crowds from across the continent. During Sónar week, the city often feels like a legitimate hotspot for electronic music, as the festival draws more than 100,000 people and a myriad of unofficial "Off-Sónar" events fill Barcelona's clubs with stacked line-ups and enthusiastic crowds. However, once the festival season comes to a close, a lot of that energy seems to melt away. Those outside of Barcelona may love to sing the city's praises, but that passion often fails to extend to the music being turned out by the artists who actually live there. Acts like John Talabot, Delorean, and El Guincho have secured international acclaim in recent years, but there exists a much larger network of quality artists, DJs, and labels whose work generally flies beneath the radar.

Like most of us, XO seems to harbor a certain fondness for the "old school," at least if this one-off freebie is any indication. The appropriately titled "Old Skool" track from the young Englishman serves as an homage to a number of decades-old sounds, lacing its shuffling undercurrent with a series of jubilant organ stabs, excitable chords, droning strings, and even a bit of hip-house vocal sampling for good measure.

Italian producer Go Dugong recently released his WAS EP as a "name-your-price" download on Bandcamp, from which the whirling "Total Body Workout" is lifted. As warm pads expand around dripping percussion and pitched vocals, the aquatic production hits exaggerated breakdowns around its midpoint with phasers and stabbing keys filling out its overloaded mix.
