Que D’s Rock Box was one of my initial official introductions to Dilla’s production before I became aware he produced some of my favorite tunes. Australian producer Amin Payne continues to solidify his standing as one of my favorite producers with his keys laden rendition of Que D’s bounce heavy Don’t Stop. Enjoy!

Finding hope on a producer’s website while sick, Tall Black Guy crafted this beat to release his frustration while bedridden. Pretty chill for a vent, right? Among other cool things, a little birdie told me that we can expect some new releases, yes plural, from Tall Black Guy THIS MONTH. Stay tuned!

One thing I’ll never be convicted of is being a John Legend fan. He’s made some good songs and tunes I’ve enjoyed, of course but overall, his style always hits me as vanilla. I love when he branches out and the bossa organ on the original version of Save Room made it a favorite of mine. Slot-A adds pushes the envelope further, crafting a moody dance-able number with a vibe I wish we could see John Legend operating in more. Download the remix + instro HERE and enjoy

Most New Years resolutions are selfish by design, solely benefiting the resolver by either beginning or ending one practice or another. St Louis DJ/producer/graphic designer/promoter Nodzilla  follows in this tradition by resolving to make a beat a day. Although this will benefit him in the long run, his resolution ensures we get treated with musical magic daily. Not selfish at all eh? Peep his Soundcloud for the previous 3 beats

Leeds based production team and live band Paper Tiger just released their Grime Remixes EP and have this to say:
“Grime has had a big influence on our music – it’s futuristic, progressive and alien, but full of hilarious characters and quintessentially British. Many critics and commentators have written about its cultural importance and can articulate these ideas far better than us (although the best way to explore it is just go on YouTube obviously), but we decided to put this release together as a way of putting our spin on a scene which continues to inspire.”
I’m not well versed on Grime so this is appreciated. Grab the EP HERE

Zurich’s High Heels Breaker or producer Domenico Ferrari has teased us for the release of his upcoming project with the visuals to funky lead single Inside Out. This synth led midtempo groover will have heads nodding and hips swaying in the club even as they attempt to decipher Busch’s soft vocals delivered as a sensual whisper. I’m loving this bassline too!

Phil Beaudreau‘s name has never appeared between these HTML headers before and there is good reason for that. Because his former outfit, Boston Indie Rock group, Shaimus plays music in a genre that we don’t normally cover ’round these here parts.
But if there is one thing that 2013 taught us, it’s that the lines that once existed between genres are breaking, crashing, blending, fusing and Vulcan mind-melding, creating more space for artists to gain more exposure with different demographics. Two years ago, you wouldn’t have been able to convince me that I would listen to and actually like an EDM, Leftfield, Post-Dubstep track or anything even remotely close to it. Yet in the last 6 months, my Google Play Music account has become a home to copies of tracks from Kaytranada, FKA Twigs and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Go figure. The world of music continues to be an ever evolving organism. So much so, that when I chanced upon Phil Beaudreau yesterday on a Soundcloud re-post and clicked play for his year old track,
I knew full well that I would be back to see when his full length would debut. It did so, a scant four hours ago and it’s completely living up to it’s namesake. Teaming up with producer Dawaun Parker of Aftermath fame was a stroke of genius at the very least, as the sonic backdrop he’s provided seems to envelope Beaudreau’s solid tenor in a misty haze that teeters on the edge of ElectroSoul but flirts with harmonies and bridges from yesteryear as well.
If we get more music of this kind in 2014, it could shape up to be another banner year. While we wait and see, cop this ten bill offering over at Phil’s iTunes page HERE.
