As you may know, deadmau5 recently bought an expansive 118-acre estate in rural Ontario, Canada. Apparently he’s now taking his departure from “apartment life” in Toronto one step further, and removing himself from the internet altogether – for the time being, at least. “This is it for a weeeee little while. Bags packed, and headed to LA to take care of some business, and get out to the HARD day of the deadstuffs!,” he writes in a farewell Tumblr post. “After i leave tomorrow, they start boxing up my apartment…. which has served me very well over the years. But it's time to try something a little different, and i think moving out to the middle of nowhere is going to gimme some new perspective and inspiration to get back to work on some more crazy things for 2015.” The break is likely to be good for the mau5trap boss, as he prepares to release 5 Years of Mau5, a collection of remixes by the likes of Nero, Dillon Francis, Eric Prydz, Madeon, Botnik, Chuckie and others, on Nov. 25. “With any luck im sure i'll find a little more solitude and peace out there as opposed to being couped up in this apartment life,” he concludes, adding that he’s going to “cool off twitter, leave the paris-ites and everything else alone just for while and screw my head back on so i can get focused on the things to come…. we got some work to do, studios to build, music to get out.” Sounds nice. Meanwhile, catch deadmau5 at HARD Day of the Dead this weekend, playing a ghastly set with Eric Prydz at their own curated stage. Photo by Rukes. |
This Week On The Evolution Beatport Show With Pete Tong
Posted: 30 Oct 2014 01:00 PM PDT
This week's episode of the Evolution Beatport Show with Pete Tong is broadcasting tonight (Thurs. Oct. 30) on local iHeartRadio stations.
This time around, the show is loaded with Beatport exclusives from across the dance music spectrum, from Ftampa & Quintino’s “Slammer” to Doorly & Harry Romero’s “The Truth.” Each episode, the host dedicates a segment to the sound of the UK, a corner of the dance world that's buzzing right now. This week we hear from an act everyone’s talking about right now, London production duo Gorgon City, who recently delivered a hyped debut album, Sirens. This week's broadcast also features music from Above & Beyond, Oliver Heldens, W&W and more. You'll also hear an exclusive DJ mix from progressive house gun Michael Woods, who has just signed a residency at SLS in Las Vegas and dropped a new track on mau5trap. All in all, there's a lot to tune in for. Head here for all the stations and times so you don’t miss the show. |

Mama said there’d be days like this. A day with a daily roundup featuring a nu-disco break-up, an MK/Lee Foss supergroup, an Oliver Heldens Pokémon tribute… read on, there’s so much more.
Drop Out Orchestra break-up Swedish duo Drop Out Orchestra have decided to call it quits. “It’s been one helluva ride, and we’ve had so much more fun than we could ever dream of. BUT – we’ve decided to go separate ways, quit while we’re ahead, and all that,” reads a statement posted to their Facebook and Soundcloud profiles. Before they go, Gary Baldi and Inko have left us with a download of their cover of Mylo’s 2004 classic “Drop the Pressure.” Thanks, guys. See you under the nu-disco ball in the skies. This weekend, bass head RL Grime is set to host his own stage at California’s HARD Day Of The Dead alongside a line-up of his favorite acts. To get in the mood, he’s delivered a new hour-long Halloween mixtape stacked with some of his go-to party jams.
After a spoken introduction from Goosebumps writer RL Stine (yes, the real guy), the DJ otherwise known as Henry Steinway throws down rap and bass cuts from the likes Hudson Mohawke, A$AP Ferg, Tommy Kruise and Baauer. He even finds room for Gesaffelstein’s haunting remix of Phoenix’s “Bankrupt!” You can get into it below. The mixtape also includes some tracks from RL Grime’s upcoming album, Void. With a release date set for 18 November via LA’s WeDidIt Records, the LP’s tracklist features team-ups with Boys Noize, How To Dress Well, Big Sean and Djemba Djemba. However, the majority of Void is all RL Grime, with the likes of “Core” and “Scylla” already DJ favorites. At HARD’s weekend-long festival, RL Grime’s Void stage will feature sets from friends like Cashmere Cat, Sophie, Branchez, Rustie and more. The headliner himself will close it out alongside special guest Cam’ron. |

Following releases on Rekids, Cajual, Defected, Culprit, Blackflag, King Street, Moda Black and Saved Records (we could keep going), Toronto favorite Nathan Barato has signed with yet another high profile label for his latest single, “Everytime I See You,” on Hot Creations. The 12″ (out now) features remixes by Brazilian producer Volkoder and MOOD label boss Nicole Moudaber, and will be released digitally on Nov. 3.
Barato remixed Moudaber’s “In the Mood” last year, so it’s no surprise that the Roots and Wings head has tapped the techno maven to apply her signature touch to his Room 303-featuring single. The result is a grooving cut which we’re happy to premiere below.
“Jamie Jones asked me to remix the next Hot Creations release and turned out it was for none other than my boy Nathan Barato, whom I love as a producer and a person as well,” she tells us. “It’s a really cool vocal track that I enjoyed working on. Consequently, I got invited to play with Jamie at Paradise DC10 in Ibiza, and got to hang out a few times with him and hear him play at various parties this summer. There are plans for him to do a remix for me as well, so stay tuned!”
Nathan Barato’s “Everytime I See You” 12″ is in stores now, and available digitally on Nov. 3, via Hot Creations. Meanwhile, Nicole Moudaber and Hot Creations co-founder Jamie Jones play Monster Mash together on October 31 in Toronto, and again at BPM Festival in Mexico in January.
Also, be sure to check out our interview with Nicole Moudaber here.
