Musician Imogen Heap is working on the development of wi-fi-enabled musical gloves that allow one to make electronic music without touching a computer.
The gloves allow musicians to step out from behind keyboards and computer screens and still access their music software without the more traditional faders or buttons. A variety of sounds can be produced depending on the gestures being made or the number of fingers involved in each gesture.
The glove technology and the software that it runs will both be open source, which leaves the final product open to inventive hacking or creative re-purposing by the public.
Heap has a Kickstarter campaign in place to fund the creation of the gloves and, as of this writing, it is 20 per cent of the way towards reaching the goal of £200,000 (approximately $366,000 Cdn).
Watch as Heap demonstrates the range of sounds these gloves can make in the video below.
