Unlock your perspective and travel through mind states, time barriers and outer space on this warm Wednesday morning with the aptly titled “Dreamy”. Producers B. Lewis and Yung Satan found strength in numbers and joined forces to meet fruitful results, blending their respective talents to balance electro-trap with sounds so lofty that they could score an opulent scene in Gatsby. Liberating, drum-paired synth drives rapidly dot the track’s closing moments, as if to acknowledge the four minutes of sensory enlightenment that had just occurred. Seriously, it’s that good. When Don Cannon and Kanye West combined their highly respected musical minds to yield Pusha T’s “Numbers On The Boards”, they created one of 2013′s finest hip-hop releases. Today, the Jamla Records’ princess Rapsody remixed that very song, rolling over the primally minimalist backdrop like a fast-moving current does its river bed: mercilessly. As the (notorious/highly disputed/hated) announcement of this year’s XXL Freshmen class comes nearer, several notable candidates have heightened their game in an effort to silence any doubters.
I’ve always been a big fan of Rapsody, but she reenergized my fandom with this one. Stream “Murder By Numbers” below. |

This project really creeped up on us out of nowhere, but we are pretty damn happy that it did. What was a seemingly odd couple at first, Girl Talk and Freeway were able to team up and create something quite refreshing. Today the duo have taken to the Internet to release the EP for free, which sports guest spots from Young Chris, Waka Flocka Flame and Jadakiss. Not only that, but in true Girl Talk fashion, the project features all sorts of interesting samples from the likes of Beyoncé, Outkast, Nine Inch Nails and many more. Stream and download the EP below. |

Awaken your mind to the tunes and rhymes of Dynamic Equilibrium. The knowledge-bearing New York hip-hop duo – consisting of Alpha Memphis and Machia – debuted yesterday the pensive and thoughtful “Age of Enlightenment”, a song that calls for the opening of eyes and the clearing of detrimental thoughts. Joined by Scienze (a fellow New Yorker and a gifted emcee and producer), this record reaches to the realms of spirituality and life lessons without becoming preachy.
Stream “Age Of Enlightenment” below. Post Crack Era is now available on iTunes – download here. Post Crack Era – Dynamic Equilibrium |

Blatpack artist and Lansing Michigan native James Gardin is back with Moleskines and Pocket Squares, an EP produced by Los Angeles producer and Potholes favorite Trebles and Blues. Anchored by the single "Selah", the five-song EP is a journey through spirituality, romance, depression and more. Sonically the project blends hip-hop, jazz and soul samples.

With the release of Little Dragon‘s Nabuma Rubberband album just over a month away, the group has taken to Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show to premiere the second single. “Paris” is a lovely extension from what we heard on “Klapp Klapp“, as infectious melodies and synthesizers run the show. And it has us excited for the band’s new direction, as they pursue an avenue that’s equal parts refreshing and accessible. Stream the track above. |

Amerigo Gazaway’s Yasiin Gaye mashup project swept us up early this year. And rightfully so. Today, weeks after the original release, Amerigo reveals accompanying visuals for the super fun “Ms Fat Booty”. And just like the mashup itself, the video does a great job of combining video footage from both of these fine artist’s catalog. Watch the video below. |
