INTRODUCING… AERIAL (FORMERLY VILLAINS)

Property of Gotta Dance Dirty

Remember The Villains? Things have changed since the days of blog house and the indie-electro craze, and for Miguel De Vivo, the change has been embraced while still being influenced by his own origins to the scene… With the new alias AERIAL and fresh EP that just dropped this week on Whiskey Pete’s imprint Switchblade Recordings, we caught up with Miguel to talk about whats been up and what to expect from him in the future.

GDD: Miguel! It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from the Villains… what have you been up to? How did the solo project Aerial come about?

I’ve spent the last year or so working on lots of new music. Aerial Came to be out of the need to have an outlet for a lot of the house music that ive been writing.

GDD: Your sound in the new single “What It Is” reflects some cool older house grooves but with a fresh edge. What are you going for in your production now?

I’ve really been feeling a lot of the throwback 90′s vibes lately. It takes me back to when I first got into electronic music. I’m trying to touch on those vibes while retaining a modern production aesthetic.

GDD: Speaking of, do you think the popularity in this “NU-K Garage”; trend is catching on? What do you like or not like about it compared to other popular sub-genres right now?

I’m not one to get too caught with comparing sub-genres because they all have good and bad music in them. I really just look for music that I can connect to. That said, I do enjoy some of the new garage sound coming out as of late.

GDD: Your new release is coming out on Whiskey Pete’s label Switchblade Recordings. How did that come about and what and what sets your music apart from the other releases on the label?

Whiskey Pete and I go way back to the jungle/dnb days when we met as mc’s. I’ve been following his new label venture and he always keeps up with what I’m doing musically. It was a natural progression for us to eventually collaborate on his new label.

GDD: What can we expect from you forthcoming this year? Where do you want to take this Aerial project?

Lots of new material on different labels. It’s that simple. This new project will represent the sounds I truly love in dance music.

Switchblade Recordings is proud to debut the “What It is” EP from the brand new forward thinking house producer, Aerial. Although Aerial may be a new name to the dance music scene it is clear upon listening to his music that he is a seasoned vet when it comes to production. ‘What It Is” is the perfect blend of classic deep house vibes with new school sounds and flavor, already landing support from the likes of Kastle, Hatiras and Hot Mouth. The 3 track EP features the heart-pounding original, a super fly disco mix from DJ Kue and a club-shattering trap mix from FootwoRk. No matter what your vibe, from sipping a mojito poolside or tearing it up in the club, this EP delivers exactly what you need this summer.
