French duo's single is the biggest-selling track of the year so far, reaching the 1m mark in just 69 days
A little more than two months after its release, Daft Punk's Get Lucky has become the first single released in 2013 to chalk up a million sales in the UK. Although nine other singles have sold at least a million copies this year, none was also released this year. It is now the biggest-selling single of 2013 so far.
Get Lucky has provided Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers – who collaborated with Daft Punk – with the biggest UK hit of his career. "The fact that Get Lucky has sold a million copies in the UK is one thing, but to do it in 69 days?! I'm awestruck," Rodgers said. "When I think how it happened, too, with people who I like a lot, that we just decided to go into the studio and do something. And then it turns out like this? It's absolutely remarkable, because no one was prepared for this.
"I've had big records and number ones; I've had records that were No 1 in the US but nowhere else. I've had records which have done well [in the UK], but not in the States. But to have this ubiquitous record, that is a hit everywhere – it's amazing to me! I'm out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I'm flabbergasted!"

Among the many records broken by Get Lucky is one that may become a pub quiz puzzler in years to come – it is the fastest UK million-seller by a French act, breaking the 79-week record previously held by David Guetta's Titanium, which had been the only French record to sell a million this side of the Channel.
Get Lucky is the 136th single to sell a million copies in the UK, following in the footsteps of hits such as Don't Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John and Kiki Dee (originally released in 1976), Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre (1995), Whole Again by Atomic Kitten (2001), Use Somebody by Kings of Leon (2008), The A Team by Ed Sheeran (2011), We Are Young by Fun (2011), Titanium by David Guetta (2011), Impossible by James Arthur (2012) and Gangnam Style by Psy (2012).
However, it remains some way off breaking the all-time record. Elton John's Something About the Way You Look Tonight/Candle in the Wind '97 has sold 4.91m copies.
