Hazel Rose is preparing to release her upcoming EP A Lover's War later this year, which is the follow up project to her 2015 full length album The Seed.

The multi-talented Bay Area artist releases her brand new song "Silly Me" which is the first song from the upcoming EP which features a music video shot in Jamaica. The song was produced by Marty Mxfly and Stylo and the music video was directed by Bousa Concepts.

Hazel shares some words regarding the video shoot and the song here:

"’Silly Me’ came together in rhythm. Soon after we created the song (produced by Marty Mxfly, Stylo and Mic Angelo) my good friend and collaborator Bousa Concepts invited me to travel with her to Kingston, Jamaica. We both have a shared love and appreciation for reggae and dancehall music and culture. We decided to make this video together with no budget and little time, but with the incredible inspiration of the vibrance of Jamaica and its people. We ended up being lucky enough to get an inside look at Kingston from two of the city’s most inspiring upcoming artists, rapper/TV host Sanjay and dancer Shelly Belly. They showed us around their home and featured in the video as well as an upcoming remix of the song. The way it turned out perfectly captures the meaning of the song for me. Mixed emotions of heartache and joy. The fleeting beauty in experiences felt; the nostalgia of longing, love and memory. The might-have-been, and the unfolding of what comes next."

Stay tuned for more music from Hazel Rose's upcoming EP A Lover's War. "Silly Me" is available on iTunes now.

bei ru - la z000

LA producer, Bei Ru, will release his brand new album L.A. ZOOO on October 7th via Musa Ler Music / Fat Beats (pre-order: iTunes | analog).

After releasing two albums independently as well as scoring music for the recent Vice Films release A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (produced by Elijah Wood), L.A. ZOOO is Bei Ru's first instrumental beat concept record which incorporates everything from bugged-out Middle Eastern melodies from the 1970s to obscure electronic, funk, jazz and soul sounds. L.A. ZOOO is Bei Ru's imaginative concept of an ominous place where humans and animals coexist but weapons and armor are required for a simple walk down the street.

Today, check out the first single from the upcoming album for the song "Tigers on Tujunga" featuring pulsating drums over a Middle Eastern sample.

Orcas, lulacruza

Sometimes one must travel far to find one's self. For their fourth full-length LP, electronic folk duo Lulacruza, traveled from their native South America to Orcas Island in the Pacific Northwest. Invited by music tastemaker and SubPop Records founder Bruce Pavitt, to record at a custom-built, state-of-the-art studio on the island, Lulacruza – Alejandra Ortiz and Luis Maurette – were so inspired by the nature and wildlife around them, they would ultimately name their new album after the pristine surroundings.

The eight tracks on 'Orcas' are Lulacruza's most intimate body of work to date. They are also their most acoustic. While Lulacruza use electronics to add depth, space and to blur the lines between reality and fiction, South American indigenous instruments like the 4-string cuatro, 10-string charango and bombo, a huge Argentinian bass drum, also gauge the dynamics on 'Orcas.' On tracks such as “Comandante," Ortiz bends her vocals like a soft blowing Colombian wind.  This dichotomy is also prevalent in their name. Lulacruza is a combination of Ortiz's pen name "Lula" and the Spanish word "cruza," which translates to "combine," as they combine ancestral music with modern technology.

tammer - running off

Terra Lopez of Sister Crayon, Luckyiam of the Living Legends and San Diego producer Dunekat have joined forces to form TAMMER. Today we have the premiere of the group’s first single, “Running Off.” Dunekat mentioned the trio is working on an EP and had the following to say about their first single:

“This track came about from hanging out with Lucky and talking about music. A name that came up while talking about different artists was Sister Crayon. I told Lucky I was talking with Terra about having her record on a Quietwater song (a group I have with cellist, Michelle Elliott, who is actually featured on “Running Off”). He told me he had been meaning to get a track together with SC. He got in contact with Terra and when she said she was down he reached out to me to make a beat for them. I immediately began working on it and sent it out to them. Everyone recorded their parts on their own. It was cool to see how much you can do with other artists without ever being in the same city.”
